Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

The #2 injector is not getting any electrical power and there is good spark. I have replaced injector, main harness, maf sensor and pcm. problem still persists. 2004 Mustang Cobra

It seems taht I have replaced all the right parts but I have no solution yet. I used a screwdiver to listen for the "click" noise while the motor is running and it works but it fails the fuel purge test and when I get on the gas hard it sputters.

I'm just trying to get as much information before I kind of give you a guess. Now you say no electrical power yet it "clicks". Have you or disconnect the connector to that injector. With the key to the on position (not running), at the red wire (using a separate ground such a the battery) are you geting full power there ? Now at the white wire on that same connector using a seperate power source; in other words on your test light clip the "aligator" part of the light to the positive battery post and the "pointy" part of the light to the connector where the white wire is. Now as you turn the engine over or even if it's runing on the other 7 injectors are you getting a pulse or flicker at a regular "rate" not once in a while ? Last at the PCM harness (I know you said you replaced but am just starting from point A to be sure) at "pin" location 101 (see picture below), from that location check the resistance at that connector (pin 101) and at the connector at the injector at the white wire. You should pretty much be zeroed out as far as continuity with an ohm meter. You can also do that test to see if you are getting the same "ground" pulse by plugging in the PCM connector and checking there (carefully) to see if you are getting the same pulse there as you are at the injector connector. It should be the same. You can check with another injector to see if it tests out different. You may have done this already but as I said am starting from square one. I don't know it all but happen to be a Ford electronics specialist. Are you getting any trouble codes ? Feel free to comment back here or you can email me directly at csautomotivecars@att.net and I will do my best to help and no there is no cost for my help. Here's the PCM connector:

Hard starting

This problem can be hard to track down , it could be caused by several thing's ! A bad check valve in the fuel pump letting fuel drain back into the tank , not keeping fuel line pressure up , a crankshaft position sensor can also cause this as well as an ignition control module !
Checks
Action
DEFINITION: Engine cranks OK, but does not start for a long time. Does eventually run, or may start but immediately dies.
Preliminary
?€¢
Refer to Important Preliminary Checks Before Starting in Symptoms - Engine Controls .

?€¢
Inspect the powertrain control module (PCM) grounds for being clean, tight, and in the proper locations. Refer to Engine Controls Schematics .

?€¢
Search for bulletins.

Sensor/System
?€¢
Test the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for being shifted in value. Connect a scan tool. Compare the engine coolant temperature against the intake air temperature (IAT) on a cold engine. The ECT and IAT sensor values should be within ?± 3?°C (5?°F) of each other. If the ECT sensor is out of range with the IAT sensor, check the resistance of the ECT sensor. Refer to Temperature Versus Resistance for resistance specifications. Replace the ECT sensor if the resistance is not within the specification. If the sensor is within the specification, repair the ECT signal circuit for high resistance.

?€¢
Inspect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor installation. A MAF sensor that is incorrectly installed may cause a hard start. Important: The embossed arrows on the MAF sensor indicate the direction of the intake air flow. The arrows must point toward the engine. Install the MAF in the proper direction. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor/Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement .

?€¢
Inspect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor for proper mounting and/or a bad connection. A long crank time occurs if the PCM does not receive a CMP signal.

Fuel System
?€¢
Inspect the fuel pump relay operation. The fuel pump should turn ON for 2 seconds when you turn ON the ignition. Refer to Fuel Pump Electrical Circuit Diagnosis .

?€¢
A faulty in-tank fuel pump check valve allows the fuel in the lines to drain back to the tank after the engine stops. Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .

?€¢
Inspect both injector fuses for being open. An open injector fuse causes four injectors and four ignition coils not to operate. Replace the fuse. Inspect the injector circuits and the ignition coil circuits for an intermittent short to ground.

?€¢
Inspect for incorrect fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .

?€¢
Inspect for a restricted fuel filter. Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .

?€¢
Inspect for a contaminated fuel condition. Refer to Alcohol/Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis .

Ignition System
?€¢
Test both injector fuses for being open. An open injector fuse causes four ignition coils and four injectors not to operate. Replace the fuse. Inspect the ignition coil circuits and the injector circuits for an intermittent short to ground.

?€¢
Inspect for proper ignition voltage output with J 26792 Spark Tester. Refer to Electronic Ignition (EI) System Diagnosis .

?€¢
Remove the spark plugs and check for the following:

-
Correct heat range

-
Wet plugs

-
Cracks

-
Wear

-
Improper gap

-
Burned electrodes

-
Heavy deposits

Refer to Spark Plug Inspection in Engine Electrical.
?€¢
Determine the cause of the fouling before replacing the spark plugs if the spark plugs are gas, coolant, or oil fouled. Refer to DTC P0172 or P0175 for diagnosis of the rich condition. Refer to Spark Plug Inspection in Engine Electrical for diagnosis of coolant or oil fouled spark plugs.

?€¢
Inspect for bare or shorted ignition wires.

?€¢
Inspect for loose ignition coil grounds. Refer to Electronic Ignition (EI) System Diagnosis .

2000 gmc 1500 p0300

I think the P0107 is the root cause of the problem.
P0300 is a random engine misfire on all cylinders.

Possible causes - Faulty spark plug (s)
- Faulty ignition coil (s)
- Ignition coils harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coils poor electrical connection
- Clogged or faulty fuel injectors
- Injectors harness is open or shorted
- Injectors poor electrical connection
- Improper spark plugs
- Insufficient cylinders compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Intake air leak
P0107 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input.
Possible causes - Manifold Absolute Pressure harness is open or shorted
- Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor poor electrical circuit connector
- Faulty Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor
- Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Module
(ECM)

Trac off light came on and off then stayed on while driving, p0203p0204 p0300 codes when scanned with little machine better read open circuts in both injectors loss of power

P0203 - Injector Circuit Malfunction Cylinder 3

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) checks the injectors circuit resistance and monitors the voltage drop during normal operation. The PCM/ECM will trigger the P0203 code when the resistance or voltage drop at the injector #3 is out of specifications.

Causes:
- Open or shorted wiring harness to the injector #3
- Bad injector #3
- Bad PCM/ECM

Solutions:
- If damage, repair injector wire harness or connector
- Replace injector
- Replace PCM or ECM

P0204 - Injector Circuit Malfunction Cylinder 4

Same info as the P0203 DTC

P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (POS) signal to vary, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

Causes:
- Improper spark plug
- Insufficient compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted
- Fuel injectors may be faulty
- Intake air leak
- The ignition signal circuit is open or shorted

Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replace Spark Plugs
- Replace Injectors
- Replace Ignition Coils

I have a 2001 Explorer Sport Trak and it don't want to start. We have checked all the sensors (crankshaft, cam trigger, fuel pump pressre is 65). What is the tank fuel pressure sensor voltage reading. ...

The first thing to check would be spark. This can be done by connecting a spark plug tester to a plug wire while the engine is cranking. The tester must be grounded to the engine block for a good electrical connection.. Your fuel pump pressure is OK.
The problem should be electrical so check
1. No voltage to the fuel injectors (blown injector fuse or bad relay)
2. No pulse signal to the injectors from the PCM (no crank or cam sensor input to the PCM, or a bad driver circuit in the PCM, or a wiring harness problem)
3. A shorted fuel injector (robs voltage from the other injectors so none will operate)

99 durango 165,000 miles runs good when running. It had the PCM changed when I bought it. Did a tune up and all maintenance. It would shut down after a while. Replaced coll temp, wire harness to PCM, map...

Make sure they put the right pcm in it. The dealer can tell you with the vin#. Then check to see that your pcm has that same number, letters etc. All may not be needed. Try to have the pcm#s when you call them

On intial start she idles terrible and craps out. Greyish smoke out the exhaust and she smells like gas. We've replaced the MAF sensor already--still doing it! Now she totally craps before--before the MAF...

most rich conditions are caused by stuck open injector, or weak spark... could also be electrical or pcm problem... id ck the spark plugs then go from there

PO420 CODE ON CHEVY S10

Hi

The code means---

Catalyst Efficiency
Below Threshold
(Bank 1)

Please make sure there is no air entering the engine behind the maf, such as a vacuum leak or leaks in ducting between the maf and the throttle body.

If that's no the case then its an issue with injectors clogging and they are not working due to "fretting". This "fretting" is electrical terminals to injectors getting oxidation on them and is fixed by unplugging them and replugging them in. The fix is to put a small dab of die-electric grease on the terminals.

I would suggest an injector service with the new GM procedure using "Top Engine Cleaner". This may be all you need but that P0420 bothers me. P0420, Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, can be set by a poor connection at the PCM or a damaged wiring harness.

Please rate this soluton as FixYa if found useful.

Thanks
Rylee
