SOURCE: green indicator light on 1998 kia sportage

That light sounds like a differential lock or 4-wheel drive. This is usually found in 4-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles. Being the light is "GREEN" and not amber or red tells me that it's not an abnormal problem.

Look around your dashboard or gearshifter for a button labeled 4x4 HI, 4x4 LO, 4x2 HI. sport/off road button, or a second, smaller shifter. Switch them around a little, and if it is a 4x4 selector, be sure when you drive on paved roads to have it set to 4x2 HI. 4x4 HI should only be used if you get stuck to help you get out (snow/mud) and 4x4 LO is only for off road driving (trail blazing/rock climbing/4-wheeling/mud bogging, etc.)

Also, check for any switches labled "DIFF LOCK" or 'AXLE LOCK". In most cars a green light is normal operations.

I hope I could help you find a solution to your problem.

How to replace oil pan gasket on 05 Kia Sportage LX 2.7L?

Hello
Yes you can do the job at home but the engine must be lifted off the engine mounts to have enough room to access and remove the oil pan, a very difficult job on the ground, fairly easy on a car lift. The job at home is about a 3-4 hour job if you are an experienced car person and have the right tools, you will need a good 2-21/2 ton hydraulic floor jack (not the cheap little ones Autozone sells) and jack stands as well as a wooden block to raise the engine up so you won't damage the oil pan..

2002 Kia Sportage 4X4 Just purchased. First big snow it seems the 4 Hi and 4 Low are not working as the front axle spins but the front wheels don't when I am stuck. Also is this vehicle rear wheel drive...

Best and cheapest to fix is to replace vacuum lockers with manual lockers. It is easy to do. Only 6 bolts per front wheel. This is the most trusted way of 100% engagement.

The oil pan is rusted and leaking need to replace. what are the propper steps to follow

Unfortunately, the problem isn't as easy to solve as icantry is describing...only because there IS a lot of "frame junk in the way" lol. Removal of the oil pan on this vehicle requires that the front axle assembly be removed from the vehicle, and the engine lifted about 3-4 inches. With the exception of pulling the entire engine out the top (which might be easier), there is no other way to remove the oil pan. Also, the oil pan gasket also serves as a windage tray and must be bolted to the underside of the crank bearing caps before bolting the new pan on. So proper steps: -remove both front wheel assemblies -disconnect the lower ball joint and the sway bar link bolts. -pull C/V shaft assemblies from axle -remove lower control arm to frame mounting bolts -disconnect front drive shaft from front diff -remove left side front
