Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

I have a error code reading of PO 743, Torque converter clutch, what does that mean?

My Expedition will run but when put in gear it becomes sluggish and will not exelerate over 40 mph. The overdrive light flashes and the air will not get cold. We put it on a handheld tester and received several error codes, one was PO 743. Some others were PO 141, O2 sensor, PO 443 Evaporator Emission control, PO 1747 Pressure control solenoid. Could all these be controled by one sensor malfunctioning?

It sounds like the convertor in the exhaust system is partly blocked. You will need to have this checked at a shop. Frankster016

Hs small miss or sluggish idle

Have you run compression test? Checked for clogged or leaky injectors? Not sure what you mean by "sluggish idle". 630 rpms seems about normal in park, fully warmed up. If this idle problem is in gear, you may have torque converter problem not cured by disabling lock up clutch. Broken or bent blades inside converter can exhibit strange symptoms.

Inhave a 1999 ford expedition it cranks like a dream but when put in gear it sputters and dies recranks great the sputters and dies in gear

You have a transmission problem. Tcc(torque converter clutch) solenoid stuck. Basically when you put it in drive, it is starting out in overdrive. Causing the engine to die.

Took 2000 Pontiac grand prix to garage and the codes he got were Po 742a, Po446a. the mechanic had said it had something to do with the torque converter....after reading a little bit online I am a little...

If it is a torque converter clutch solenoid (or tcc solenoid). You do NOT need a new transmission or transmission rebuild. You just need to replace the TCC solenoid.

How to fix this problem ?code#po743 2000ford taurus se 3.0

Code 743 means the computer did a volt drop test on the circuit and found the solenoid to be open or shorted to ground. It could be the solenoid valve, or the wiring.

What does it mean to have a code po 430 on a 2003 ford expedition

My code book says"Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold(Bank 2).This means the computer sees that the readings between the O2 sensor before and after the catalytic converter show that the converter isn't cleaning the exhaust enough.This could be the sensors or the converter.I'm leaning toward the converter,but this only a guess.(O2 sensors can become sluggish and not read accurately,but the computer would most likely set a code for one of the sensors as well).

Error codes

Her is the definition and a list of possiable causes.

Code P1740-Torque converter clutch did not lock up when the PCM sent the command. Enabling conditions: No engine or transmissions codes are present, vehicle speed was under 70 MPH, TPS was under 33% open. When the PCM commanded the torque converter to lock, no change was detected in engine speed. Blocking action: This code can block the following monitors: none.
Testing: Check torque converter solenoid for proper operation.
P1740 TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE (GAS)
Theory of Operation
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid is used to engage the TCC which improves fuel economy.
When Monitored
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (OD) will be tested each time the PCM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and OD.
Set Condition
The DTC will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or OD. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.
Possible Causes
* ENGINE DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE TOO COLD
* OIL PAN CONTAINS EXCESSIVE DEBRIS
* 3-4 SHIFT SOLENOID
* SHAFT OR SEAL DAMAGE
* TCC SOLENOID
* TORQUE CONVERTER
