A clutch cable doesn't take much to install. Who told you $600.00?? You don't have to take the trans. loose to do this. All you do is unhook the cable from pedal and unhook if from the trans. This job should only take you an hour if you've never done it before. How long has the clutch been in your car?

SOURCE: How to replace the clutch
you have to pull the tranny back and you'll see the clutch and pressure plate and the trow out bearing would be on the tranny useing the right tools it could be easy

the self adjust mechanism is made up of two pieces a pawl and ratchet. removing them is more awkward than difficult. you need to remove the clutch pedal by knocking out the pivot shaft that also supports the brake pedal just knock it out far enough to remove the clutch pedal after removing the clip. when the pedal is out you will see how it is assembled. the hardest part of the job is replacing the spring which is attached to the pedal this must be hooked back into the pedal last i find a strong piece of wire threaded through the hole in the pedal does the trick this is a job for someone who has some experience good luck

remove transmission and insure to have proper clutch plate alignment tool upon re-assembly...this makes installing trans into new components possible

i would say its wear and tear, you can kill a clutch in a day if your hard on it,,,or it could take 150,000 miles,,suzuki will classify that as a wear and tear item,,they are really tight with that stuff,
