How do i replace the k frame on my 1996 honda civic?

Coming off the passenger side front wheel there is a section of the frame rusted out. do i need to replace it or just have it welded?

should b 3 15mm bolts on the bac side and 1 axel nut hammer on the old bearing it should come out it might have an abs plug

UPPER CONTROL ARM:

Do not disassemble the upper arm. If the ball joint or bushings are faulty, or the upper arm is damaged, the entire upper arm must be replaced.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the front wheels. Support the lower control arm assembly with a floor jack.
  3. Separate the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator tool.
  4. Remove the self-locking nuts from the upper arm anchor bolts. Remove the upper arm from the vehicle.

Do not disassemble the upper arm. If the ball joint or bushings are faulty, or the upper arm is damaged, the entire upper arm must be replaced.
To install:
Use new self-locking nuts when installing the upper arm and strut.
  1. Install the upper control arm assembly into the strut tower.
  2. Connect the upper ball joint.
  3. Install the front wheels and lower the vehicle.
  4. With all four of the vehicle's wheels on the ground, torque the upper control arm nuts to 47 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). Torque the castle nut to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm); then, only tighten it enough to install a new cotter pin.
  5. Tighten the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  6. Check and adjust the vehicle's front end alignment.
The bushings on the front lower control arms are replaceable on most models.
This procedure requires the use of a press and may be above the skill range of the average driveway enthusiast. It is recommended that this procedure be done by a qualified machine shop if you are not skilled in the proper use of a press.
  1. Remove the lower control arm that is in need of new bushings.
It is recommended that both the left and right lower control arm bushings be replaced at the same time. The vehicles handling may become unstable if there are new bushings on one side of the car and worn ones on the other.
  1. Set up the control arm in a press.
  2. Using a impact socket of the correct length and size, press out the old bushing.
  3. Install the new bushing by slowly using the press to push it into the control arm.
  4. WARNINGExcessive force could cause the bushing to bend or tear so be careful.
  5. Once the bushing is properly seated in the control arm, remove the arm from the press and install it on the vehicle.

Bearings are pressed into the hubs...much easier, faster and economical (if you don't have a press) to replace the complete bearing/hub assembly, no pressing is needed, since bearings are already pressed into the new hubs. Cost..aprox, 60 buxs each.
Here are the steps for the rear replacement...
Loosen the lug nuts on a rear wheel. 2) Chock the wheels and jack the rear of the car on the side with the lug nuts that you just loosened. 3) Remove the wheel by removing the lug nuts. 4) Pry open the dust cap covering the center of the axle/spindle. A small screwdriver tapped into the space between the hub and dust cap will work well for this. 5) With the dust cap now removed, use a thin center punch to straighten the little dent in the rim of the spindle nut so that you will be able to turn it freely in the next step. 6) Use a 32mm socket and a large breaker-bar to loosen the spindle nut. Unscrew the nut all the way and place it in a clean, safe area. 7) You should now be able to slide the hub/bearing assembly from the shaft. 8) Installation is the reverse of removal. Use plenty of high-temperature wheel bearing grease on all surfaces before you mount the replacement hub assembly.

IMPORTANT: Torque the spindle nut to 134 ft/lbs....(per manual specs)

When reinstalling the dust caps, tap them gently into place to avoid denting them...Install wheels, jack her down and pat yourself on the back...job complete.

it is more than likely a short in the headlight switch. also try the dimmer switch on the dash for the dash lights.

The k frame is rotted out in my 96 civic where it bolts to the passengers side lower control arm. How do I replace this k frame and will there be welding involved?


you can see if you can get a frame section from the wreckers and replace it or take it to either a welding shop or body shop and have it weld repaired.

My daughter ran her 98 Civic EX into a ditch flattening the front tire on the right front and bending the entire rear left wheel inward. I replaced to lower control arm in the rear, but now the car has...


not a lower control arm problem
the wheel alignment guy is not lying

the front wheel drive only has tow in toe out adjustments
no camber adjustments
the frame is pre stressed at manufacture set at zero

if the shock tower frame on any front wheel drive gets bent up.... even a little bit
the camber will be way out
even front ride height may be way out on each front side

too dangerous to drive
the car is a write off


only good to sell for parts or buy the same model and swap over its good bits

if you like the car a lot

How do you replace the front rotors on a 1996 honda accord?


Remove wheel. Take off outer driveshaft nut. Remove lower ball joint pinch bolt & separate ball joint from spindle. Pull rotor & spindle out & away to pull driveshaft outer splined end out of rotor center hub. Look on the back of the spindle for the 4 bolts that hold in the wheel bearing. Use a 12 point socket to remove the 4 bolts and remove wheel bearing from spindle (out towards the wheel stud side). Probably will have to use a air chisel to get it out. Once it's out undo the 4 bolts on the outer (wheel stud side) of the rotor and remove the rotor from the hub. Clean & lube the hole where the bearing was in the spindle & the inner face of the hub. MAKE SURE IT'S CLEAN otherwise you may get a pulsation on braking if theres a piece of rust or dirt between the rotor center & the hub face. Reverse procedure to install.

If the rear bolts don't come out then you will have to use a slide hammer to separate the bearing to replace the rotor and there is a very good chance you will need to replace the wheel bearing after you're done (noisy on road test).


Not the job to do at home, usually an easy 2-3 hours per side if things go bad (book time is 2.2 hrs per side). Use good quality rotors as you don't want to have to do it again because a cheap rotor gave you a pulsation.

if its a digital readout check all fuses if its cable one end may have come undone or the speed sensor in the right front wheel located within the wheel bearing is malfunctioned and needs replacing make sure the wire to the wheel is connected as well

Where is the starter on a 1996 honda civic 2 door coupe


hi from uk the fact your car is l/h drive ?? the engine being transvers front wheel drive the mechanic did i assume tap the starter motor ? it is positioned on passenger side that is to say as you open bonnet the left hand side of engine also the g/box is attached ? now if you folloow the positive red lead from battery ? it will be connected at other end to the startermotor solenoid now the starter motor is either at the front side of engine or at the other side nearest the bulkhead it is usually secured to the point where gearbox and the rear end of engine block meet normally 3 bolts secure starter after disconnectin leads from it b4 you start job of removing ? make sure you disconnect the negative lead from battery 1ST ! hope this helps?

Fuel filter location


Unless it's a 4.6 liter V8, it's on the passenger side about 2 feet towards the rear of the front tire with a metal guard over it on the frame, two bolts, just did mine.
