It sounds like you generator is failing , if your battery is not charging , and if it is real bad it will drain the battery as well , then you won't be able to crank it over,
if it does crank over but don't start then there could be a spark problem or fuel problem
you will need to then test for spark , if there is then a test for fuel will need to be done
need more info?

Hi, could be an ignition key problem. intermittent problem could be coming from the ignition contacts of the starter. when it happens again, try it two or three times more and it might work again, just to bring the car home, then replace the ignition switch.
another source of trouble could be the starter solenoid. it is a big solenoid that connects the main positive lead of the battery to the starter motor.

When you try to start the car, does it turn over. If you are excessively turning the starter over, it will stop working for a while do to overheating. If the starter doesn't turn over right away from sitting either your battery could be bad (probably not the case) or the wiring could be bad, the solenoid could be bad ( highly likely) or even a relay could be bad. so check all of the above and see what you find, if you have a volt meter, use it to check voltage when you are trying to start the car if it isn't turning over. Should be 12 volts. If you plan on doing a lot of work by yourself on this vehicle, then I recommend investing in a Haynes manual or a Chilton manual which will cost about $20 from the local auto parts store.

1. This could be the voltage regulator. Both the positive from the battery and the starter would be connected to it.

2. The possible problem with injection system control circle

3. Your car has a faulty starter motor, replace it and the fault is cured, fault is caused by scratching on the armatuer shaft which causes a high resistance on the electrical circuitry, starter will be turning quite normal when you start warm, but the excess current draw shuts down the injectors hope this helps you.

Thanks

I did some research and this is what I came up with:

There are 2 inexpensive relays that will cause problems on these that won't turn the check engine light on. If you go to the relay center under the hood on the driver's side, pull the cover off and look at the lid. You're looking for the auto shutdown and fuel pump relays. The contacts get worn out in them and have intermittent connections. Replace them as they are worn out. If either of these fail, the ignition and/or the fuel pump won't function.

I hope this solves your problem. Please let us know if it hits the nail on the head.

The bendix in the starter isn't working as it should. The bendix pushes the gear up or out to engage with the flywheel, but the starter gear isn't fully engaging or going back in the down position completely. The starter is most likely your problem. The starter is good, but the bendix inside isn't.

starter is located on the drivers side near the radiator. the connections are a little difficult but the starter bolts are easy to get to and the starter is easy to replace. I replaced one in a parking garage. Took about 30 minutes
