Early last year car drove fine, and about end of 2011 the car sounds like it was beat with a bat. Two issues with the car one is just me getting a new muffler because the old one rusted out. The annoying issue is that the car is louder during acceleration(muffler) but also when trying to accelerate the car is slow as can be, i don't believe the slow take off and accelerating has anything to do with the muffler because randomly the car will speed back up like it did before whatever happened to it, then maybe less than 3 seconds later it will go back to sounding like **** and slow.
Psssstt!! Change your sparkplug wires and plugs, at least thats what fixed mines, saved me the hassle of changing out the fuel filter.
Possibly your catalytic converter is clogging up. Short of using a thermometer to check exhaust temp's pre- and post-converter (the temp. after the converter should be about 100 degrees hotter that the temp. before the converter), the next best way is to run car with converter un-hooked and see if that is the problem.
Good luck.
ENGINE HESITATES WHILE ACCELERATION
LOSS OF ACCELERATION
It
can be fuel pressure issue or it's the problem with accelerator pedal or its
clogged filters causing there.
There
are many other possibilities. I suggest you to go through the list of help
links mentioned below, these will help you to confirm where the actual fault
lies: -------

I mean run the engine, not run the car...and by clogging up, I mean the stuff inside the converter might be breaking up and plugging up your exhaust. One of those infra-red handheld thermometer devices can be easily used to check if the converter is good or bad. Or just pull off exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and see if engine runs better then. It will be noisy, and be careful of very hot exhaust parts.
