Investigate or get it investigated, because this could quite easily set fire to your car. i would seriously consider disconnecting it until problem sorted. unplug the whole unit and make sure no live wire/s are bare. hope this helps

    Tx! Makes sense.
Took it to a garage today and they checked the fuses but found nothing wrong.
I found an article on the net saying that after using the cigarette lighter socket for charging a cell phone, the lighter can not be used ever again for lighting a cigarette as the charger damages the little device that makes it spring back after use.. I am not a smoker and uses the ashtray for small change. When the hot air started blowing and we investigated the small change in the ashtray burnt us. Even the panel surrounding the gear was hot.

SOURCE: where is the cigarette lighter

Some of the fuses are under the hood, check your owner's manual. Mine is located on the right side near the front of the engine compartment.Mine also has extra fuses in the engine fuse compartment.

Check the fuse box and replace the fuse if it is bad. If this makes them work and the fuse blows again you will have to trace the wiring and or heating units to single out the problem.

They hyundai service manual says the following.

(1) After removing the ashtray remove the facia panel mounting screws
(2) Then disconnect the connector from cigarette lighter
(3) Disconnect thermal fuse case from socket end
(4) Remove the ring nut and separate cigarette lighter socket from the thermal protector.

I hope this helps. I have never had to replace one (yet) so I can't give exact directions. Even if the fuse looks good you may want to replace it and see if that fixes it first. Sometimes they have miniscule hairline cracks that are hard to see. Hope this helps

Apart from the fuse box in the engine bay there is a fuse repository behind the coin alcove underneath the boot release. Fuse 3 for the lighter (I think) was blown. I replaced it and now the climate control console responds and the display lights up.
