Do you have a check engine light flashing when this happens? If not it is not a misfire.

revolutions per minute and is read from the turbine shaft in the transmission
it reports the input drive shaft speed to the TCM so that the TR knows to change ratios
the engine rpms engine revolutions per minute are recorded on the tachometer in the dash so don;t confuse the two different readings
take it to an accredited auto transmission shop to have the sensor replaced

RPM's go high when driving but then go back to normal

What you are describing sounds normal. RPM's stand for revolutions per minute. Each minute your engine is running, the pistons are going up and down. When you are not going anywhere, your engine is idling and so the RPM's should NOT be very high. However, when you race up a hill, your RPM's SHOULD be high because your engine has to work hard to climb the hill or to go fast.
Idle speed= 650 Revolutions Per Minute. That means your engine cylinders each work 650 times in One minute.
At freeway speeds, your engine will revolve somewhere between 1600 and 2100 times per minute. I hope that helps.

I take it that you only have 1 speedometer and that reads miles per hour or car speed . The left speedo? is in reality a tachometer and reads the engine revolutions per minute. When the engine is cold (before it reaches operating temperature) the CPU will keep the rpm's above 1000 (1 x1000) and when that temperature is reached the idle speed is reduced to normal operating rpm's. So yes it is normal. All you need to do is know the difference and the meaning of all the gauges.

1988 Ford F350 460,fuel injected, Wont start,,, Coil only sends spark once per revolution of the rotor

Hello Donn,

UN-fortunately 1988 is WELL before the OBD
(on board diagnostic)... DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE
Codes (DTC) got standardized...

So DAYS can be wasted looking for commonality...

Rather than assuming your spark, timing, fuel, ECU...
Oxygen Sensors. INJECTORS are all askew...

I would suggest that if you SATURATED YOUR

and opened you EXHAUST ahead of your catalytic
converters... ahead of your mufflers... you engine would run...

Obviously DANGEROUS to operate in that condition... at
least you would know what had to be REPLACED before
you can operate your vehicle SAFELY.

If you decide the job is a bit too much... at least
check out your PURCHASE cost of a replacement
CAT and/or MUFFLER...

Check engine always appear everytime i reached 3000 revolutions per second. and when i turn off the engine and then turn it ON again, check engine indicator disappear.

Have a repair facility hook up a diagnostic scanner and have them diagnose it. May have a misfire, if you havent done a tune up yet, you can try this, lots of variables without a scan.

What is the rpm sensor

the RPM sensor is the Revolutions Per Minute of the crankshaft sensor. It is also called a Crank Sensor and also a Crank Position Sensor on some applications. However, some RPM signals are often taken from the Camshaft Sensor. Either way, RPM is short for Revolutions Per Minute..

Want to know what rpm means car seems like it jumps or pulls had oil change and tune up car is 2003 pon. sun fire

Hello racastillo,

RPM means revolutions per minute. This is how many times the engine turns around in one minute. I am not sure what else you are looking for with the rest of your question. You will have to go into a little more depth with the problem. Regards, rcampsr
