Question about 1995 Ford F350

1 Answer

I have a 19951995 ford f350 powerstroke with a five speed manual. Shifts through all five forward gears great when I shift to reverse sometimes it will grind as I release the clutch. Seems to shift better if I hold pressure on the shifter and pull it towards me in reverse. Any suggestions?

Yes its worn a bit and this is normal on manual gearboxes ,now could be a gearchange problem inside the gearbox as the reverse gear is worn on the end of the teeth ,then it could be the driver over the driven shaft is worn so the layshaft is dragging or a selsector rod ,try slowing the idle down to around 600/700 rpm as this will make it easier as this monster 7litre engine should idle at around 500 with no problem ,Now remember that iam in europe and all our or 99% of motors are manual and at least 50% diesel and this grating in reverse is normal as thier is no syncromesh on this gear ,you sort of lift clutch up a bit to move the gear clusters inside the box then drop it in i do it as second nature without thinking about it One question would you still drive this motor if had to pay around 10 dollars a gallon for petrol and top band of road tax which in ireland is around 1500 euros a year and a bit less here in spain?

it may be a bad transmission modulator valve located on the side of your transmission, vacum operated. a sudden downshift or forward shift when unexpected is sign of a bad modulator valve or a vacum leak to the transmission.best to shop around for a garage w/references when it comes to transmission work though. check all the vacum lines to your transmision, you need to look on the underneath side of your truck on the side of transmission for a loose or disconnected vacum line on the side of the transmission. when you feel the vacum line, follow it to the top of engine, the vacum line is about 3/8th line, and may be disconnected or losing air. to make this short, when you drive the car, start out in low gear and shift the transmission, manually from 1st to 2nd to 3rd does it do right with no slipping? if it does this right and shifts great manually, the modulator valve on the side of the transmissions bad,or a bad vacum leak in-between.thank you for choosing fixya.com

I have a 1992 f350 4x4 with a 5 speed manual transmission which jumps out of reverse

I suspect that your syncromesh has gone, one indication is the gears grinding when you try to shift into reverse. One solution is to tie a bungee cord some where and hold the shift lever in. This is cumbersome, so sooner or later you are going to have to re build the reverse gear in your transmission

I have a five speed manual transmission in my 7.3 powerstroke. so the problem is a came to a stop aweek or so ago and she completly will not engage into first and second gear only!

Please inspect the shift rod linkage under the truck.
Sounds like the shift rod on the side of the transmission is not "centered". That will prevent you from going into some gears.

After you determine the problem... you should be able to determine the solution (fix what is broken, loose or worn).

Shifting problem

This problem is caused by carbon build up in the exhaust, try running it real ******* the freeway, full throttle, u will feel it when it clears, it happens slowly so u don't notice anthing but perhaps delayed hard shifts and the like, I have checked many truck forums and they all say the same thing, carbon in the exhaust, so try it, what do u have to loose?
