In most cases this is causes by a failed pressure check valve in the fuel pump, this allows the fuel in the lines to drain back to the fuel tank where the pump is located and this causes the hard start.

SOURCE: I just bought a remote and I need to program it in an 06 chevy eq

Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle. The order in which the transmitters are programmed is important. The first transmitter programmed will be transmitter #1, and the second transmitter programmed will be transmitter #2. Use care to program the transmitters correctly.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Select Body Control Module.
  4. Select Special Functions.
  5. Select Program Key Fobs.
  6. If you are adding a transmitter to the system, or are replacing a transmitter, choose the Add/Replace Key Fobs option. This allows new transmitters to be added without deleting those currently programmed to the module. If you are replacing all transmitters or none of the transmitters are working, choose the Clear memory and Program All Fobs option. This prevents lost or stolen transmitters from being used to access the vehicle.
  7. Follow the scan tool on-screen directions.
  8. After programming the last transmitter, remove the scan tool.
  9. Exit the vehicle. Attempt to lock/unlock the doors to verify the programming.
  10. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
  11. if you don't have a scan tool then you can go to a lock smith they can do it cheaper than the dealer sometime.

Having an intermittent crank no start condition. Does it when ever it feels like it. Can crank and will not start. Turn key off and sometimes may start and sometimes will have to turn off and retry again....

I was having the same problem yesterday. My battery charged fine but would not crank again if I turned it off. I took the battery to a parts store to have it checked and it was good. While I was there a mechanic came in and told me that he has towed a lot of chevys with the same problem. He told me to go home and put the battery back on and see if it would crank. IT DID! He said that the battery cables will tighten and loosen on their own on a side mount battery so check that first. You may have to completely remove the battery and then put it back on. GOOD LUCK. It worked for mine and only cost a little gas to the parts store. Hope it works for you also.

I have a 2006 Equinox LT with 51,000 miles it has the 3.4 engine. I have had issues with when you go to start it it cranks but then i have to step on the gas to turn it over, i bought it used in january...

Mine does, hopefully 'did' the same thing. I took mine to the Chevy dealership today with the same problem and they told me it was the throttle body. It was gummed-up. My vehicle has '06 Equinox has 63'000 on it and besides this starting problem i have also replaced the front and rear shock around 40k, the heater door/valve at 31k and I'm on my third set of rotors and I don't even drive it hard. This starter problem is more and more common that I am seeing, so take off the air intake hose to get to the throttle body and see if it is gummed-up or dirty. if so clean it with Carburator cleaner or other approved cleaner.

Start problem

I have had the same exact problem now for 2 years. I have taken it to the dealer and it never does it for them and they say everything is within GM standards. I read about other gm cars having the same problem and some of them have been lucky enough to fix the problem by replacing the fuel pressure regulator. I am currently trying to see if its possible to replace in my '06 equinox. if you have any news please reply!

In my 06 Chevy Equinox I went to put the key in the ignition and the ignition wouldnt turn to start the car up?

**** the steering wheel hard side to side. That should release the interlock. Otherwise the ignition switch is worn (unusual in a 06 car unless it's an awful lot of stop and go driving).

2006 Chevy Equinox - Service Lamp Reset

Turn the ignition to run. Within three seconds push the gas pedal to the floor three times. Turn the key to off, and then start the car. The light should flash three times signifying that it reset. If it does not, try repeating the process, but instead of turning it to off after stepping on the pedal, just start the car.
