    Is the pump running? As to the fuel filter there is no in line filter, Dodge hasn't used one for years now. The only thing that filters the fuel is the screen at the fuel pump intake and the fuel pressure regulator on the top of the fuel tank, was it replaced?. If you want any help please answer the questions about what is the fuel pressure reading in PSI? Have you tested the MAP sensor? Any fault codes in the systems?

Does the engine run if you spray starting fluid (from any auto parts store or hardware store) into the air intake of the engine? If so the injectors are not delivering fuel (we call this injector "pulse") or you have other engine problems like a jumped camshaft timing belt? Does the camshaft drive pulley turn when the engine is cranked over? If not the camshaft drive belt has gone away. Also check all the fuses with a 12 volt test (available from any parts store for about $5) light 15 amps and up to 30 amps, Are any of them not lighting the 12 test light on both sides of the fuse with the ignition key on? Do you have power to one side of which injector with the key on? Be meticulous and check everything until you find the cause of the no start. Also the camshaft drive belt lasts about 90,000 miles to about 100,000 miles, then it can go at any time with the resulting no start.

SOURCE: fuel pump shut off switch

no it doesn't. the fuel pum has a relay that is located in the junction box under the hood if your vehicle is not starting because your not getting fuel check the relay. I use the a/c clutch relay to switch with the fuel pump relay if the vehicle starts just replace the relay if the vehicle doesn't start then you have a bad fuel pump...please rate

Try cleaning the EGR valve first

electronic Tempture Control

Potential Symptoms

Symptoms of a P0118 could include:

* Very poor fuel economy
* A no start condition
* Vehicle may start, but run very poorly, blowing black smoke, running very rough and misfiring
* Illumination of MIL
EGR valve

Usually a fault in the control circuit, will leave no noticeable symptoms other than the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination. However, if the EGR control solenoid
is stuck open due to debris, etc. the code may be accompanied by misfire under acceleration, rough idle, or engine dying altogether.

SOURCE: 2004 dodge neon hard time starting

Well it could be the pump itself going bad or a short in the wiring, possible clogged fuel filter. There is a valve what looks like a tier valve cap on the fuel rail if you can get you hands on a pressure gauge and hook it up, you should see the pressure increase and decrease, if it does not start looking elsewhere.

SOURCE: 2002 Dodge Neon Fuel Pump Replacement

HI.Your fuel pump is an integrated part of the pump module, which also contains the fuel reservoir, level sensor, inlet strainer and fuel pressure regulator. The inlet strainer, fuel pressure regulator and level sensor are the only serviceable items. If the fuel pump requires service, replace the entire fuel pump module.

There is no access panel. You will need to, slightly, drop the fuel tank, in order to extract the module for replacement. This module it mounted on-top of the tank. the module is inserted into the tank.

I have a neon 2ltr automatic 1996. i changed the fuel pump and the car acts like its not getting enough fuel when its on run. cannot drive it more that 50 metres without it dying. but immedately u can...

The only way to be sure the fuel system is good, is to do a fuel pressure test. The fuel injectors require a lot of fuel pressure at them to work right. If pressure is correct, per Neon, then you can stop wondering: gas is getting to the engine and is at correct pressure, so the pump and filter is okay .
You have to start somewhere. I would say, check the fuel pressure, and check for trouble codes-have the engine computer scanned for any trouble codes. Good luck, hope you find it. Does it stall when you run the engine without trying to drive it, just sitting still?

Does a chevy cavalier 2.0 fuel pump put out same pressure as 1998 dodge neon 2.0 dohc?

if its a racing fuel pump than it will have more BUT that will do you no good if you dont have racing fuel injectors, fuel rail, bigger intake manifold, bigger throtle body, and your mapping tuned in with a flashable pcm$$$$$$$$$$$$. stock fuel programing will let it run stock no matter how much pressor your fuel pump puts out. fuel injectors are solenoids that the pcm opens and closes they dont stay open. BUT IT WILL WORK

Its like it loses power when driving going just fine and then its like it holds its breath and dies plymouth neon 95

When was fuel filter last changed, if not lately, I'd suggest trying that, and if that doesn't cure it, have fuel pressure tested. If it does it more so after running for a while, I'd try to get it into shop for fuel pressure check when it happens. Those have been known to start losing fuel pressure after pump gets warmed up after running for a while.

2001 dodge neon wont start and then the engine dies while driving

When this happens you should check to see if it has spark. The coils could be going bad or the main relay could be going bad if it has no spark. If it has spark then check for fuel pressure. If it doesnt have fuel pressure chances are that its the pump. I think those cars have a problem with pumps going out in them.

Have a 2004 dodge after engine runs for a while,car stalls and loses powerand regains and losses power, turn engine 0ff for a minute , engines runs good for while and acts the same way.

Check for any vacuum leaks. If possible, have fuel pressure tested and have a compression test done to determine if there is a faulty gasket.

95 dodge neon shuts off while driving

After it kills, pull a plug wire and check for spark. If it has spark, check for fuel. I can't remeber where the service port is on the F.I of a Neon but it'll look like a tire air valve cap but a little larger. It''l be on the fuel rail or line somewhere under the hood.

Take the cap off and depress the valve. If fuel doesn't squirt out (not drip), you're losing pressure. Neons were bad about fuel pumps so it MIGHT be this. They run a little over $200 for just the pump. I had a retail unit that kept doing this due to fuel deposits from Ethanol. It kept clogging the "filter" sock in the tank. After it set a while the stuff would sink back to the bottom and the car would start back up.

Try looking to see if your injectors are clogged or if fuel is getting to the fuel rail. You can take the hose that is on the fuel rail off then try starting it or just pump the gas pedal and you should see gas coming out. I had a similar problem with my 97 neon and this was my problem just try and see, you never know.
