Question about 2004 Saturn ION

2004 Saturn Ion high RPM while Idling

I have a manual transmission and normally when it idles (at a stop light for instance) the RPMs are around 500. Recently I noticed occasionally they have been 1,500-2,000. This high RPM does not seem normal. At other speeds the RPM is consistant with the driving speed. Any suggsetions?

My 2004 Ion sounds like it is stuck in a lower gear. The tranny really wines when I go over 30 mph. It is a manual transmission. What can I do?

I have a 2004 Ion 2 Quad Coupe with 64k on it. I have the same problem. The issue is a bad throttle body. You can try resetting the throttle body, that might cure it. It didn't work for me. My issues started at around 20k miles and it will continue to get worse. Which of course like the body control module the dealer said it was nothing to worry about.

Oddly if you quickly turn the key to the off position and back to on while running the problem goes away.

Do you self a favor and trade your car in, the electrical system is horrible on this car.

    So far for me..
    Turn signal bulbs, and sockets
Body Control Module (This one hurts)

    Throttle body
    Stereo
    Power Mirrors

    Good luck!

Great job GM! Way to earn your customers!

2004 saturn ion idles to fast

may need to check your vacuum lines. Your car probably has a MAP senor (Manifold absolute pressure) so if you have some sort of leak into your intake manifold it will raise engine rpm to compinsate for the extra air.

check for vacume leaks listen for a hissing sound if you here one but cant pin point it you can use a spray bottle of gas of can of ether both very flamable so be gentle and spray around the sound when the engine revs up theres your leak thats where i would start

2004 Grand Am With High Idling Problems too!

Make sure your throttle cable is not bound up on anything. Also where the throttle cable ends at the throttle body make sure it moves freely and there is nothing obstructing its movement..Rpms are a little too high to be a vacuum leak.

High idle 1997 Madza 626 4 cylinder auto transamission

Idle control valve...

HIGH DOLLAR PART, 400 to 500 smackers....

You can try cleaning it, I beleive that is the same 2.0 liter motor they put in the ford Probe? I could be wrong, I know they 2.0 has issues with the idle control valve..

Anyway, if you want to try cleaning it, try this link... its to a Probe, but should be the same as yours...

http://www.geocities.com/adamk01452/IAC_Clean.html

If its not the same as that, you can probably search the net and find a site specific to your car... but it really should be the same motor, even the haynes manual for the Probe has sections for both the Probe and 626 in it...

Good Luck!!!

High idleing

Try pulling the engine coolant temp sensor, They often crack not sure why but the ceramic tip cracks makes the car hard to start, the car's idle may race while shifting gears, and often smokes. The sensor is on the right side of the engine when looking at it on the head. Easy to change and get too
