Question about 1996 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

My truck idles high at times then at other times it runs normal rpm

Its a 96 with the 4.3 auto w code as I said it idles high at times ( 1500 even 2500 rpm ) if you turn the key off and let it sit for a few minutes and restart it it usually idles fine after that . I was thinking maybe its an I a c sensor I have replaced all of the other sensors thats the only one thats left . I also replaced all the hoses I thought one of them had a leak or a crack that I couldnt see . any other ideas ? the truck isnt giveing me any codes so I cant go with that either . thats the only thing I can think of is the i a c sensor .

Have you cleaned the idle air control valve? If not i would start there.

Also check your fuel pressure regulator.Pull the vacuum hose off the map sensor and if any fuel runs out or you see any fuel then replace regulator.

Chevy Malibu Cold Idle Problem

Check the water coolant thermostat. If it is stuck in the "open" position you are heating up all the water in the coolant system and this will take time. The thermostat keeps the water in the engine until warmed up to almost normal running temperature, only then does it allow the coolant to enter the radiator.

I have a 96 k1500 chevy truck and have 4 codes that pop up on the check engine light randomly. Codes are ckp A signal intermitent, cmp out of range, idle contol rpm to high, O2 bank 1 sensor 1 insuficent...

O2 sensor cross talk bank to bank irregular, change 02 sensor(s).

Sounds like Idle air control sensor bad, All of your codes interact, I would start with 02 sensor.

I would locate a Tech II and run a diagnosis, eliminate guess work.

Rev count for 2009 corolla pro. goes up when engine starts even when the car is not moving. Is that normal?

High idle indicates that the engine most likely has a vacuum leak. This could be due to many causes; cracked hose or hoses, bad gaskets..ect. Hard to say exactly without more info, but you can open the hood and inspect the vacuum lines for damage or cracks. It is a 2009, so it probably is not something major.

I have a 1987 f-150 ford and it high idles at 2500 to 3000 rpm what can cause this problem. this truck has a 5.0 in it.

Check the throttle cable for binding and the engine for vacuum leaks.
You may have a stuck idle air control solenoid.
It is hard to say what it might be. Start running some tests and it will help narrow your search.

RPM run high and slow to drop down

There could be two problems i can think of here. First would be a computer problem. The computer might be telling the car to run at a high speed. A problem like this might be fixable from your local garage. A problem like this could be expensive. Second, as engines age, they natually tend to idle higher. This is a normal occurance. This is accompanied by a decrease of gas mileage. For me, i went from normal 26mpg down to around 22mpg. A problem like this can be fixed by using fuel additives aimed at high mileage cars. I have used fuel injector cleaners, and that has brought my car back to her glorydays of 1996. I hope this helps, if not let me know.

Speed is to high for short periods of time-3599 rpm, 32500 rpm 1500 rpm after I RELEASE THE throttle.

dear friend-there is a future build into these cars that brings the idling down slowly,im not saying this is the case,it is sometimes irretable but serves it"s pupose,
if the periode is longer than normal then it could be the tps sensor, hook up to a diagnostic machine and get the fault codes,

High idling at low temp.

Hi,

Offhand, yes this would be normal. The high idle is brought about by the auto choke whose purpose is to hasten the reaching of operating temperature of the engine. The fact that the idle RPM goes down after some time is a good indicator, it tells us that the auto choke is working.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
