Question about Cars & Trucks

2 Answers

I was having trouble starting a 2003 Kia Sorento. With 150000 miles on it I was told to replace the fuel filter. After locating a filter and following what instructions I could obtain, my son and I tackled the job. I was told to remove canister with fuel pump and fuel filter. Cleaned out all of it and replaced fuel filter. Filled canister and attempted to pressurize fuel system. Bled system and tried to start car. With what seemed like a couple of attempts, it still did not start. In lay terms, I need to know what to look for or try and what procedure I need to go to get it started. I would appreciate all the input you can offer to rectify this problem. Thank-You Winston.

Based on what you have told me and with my own experiences over the last 30 years with electronic fuel injection no start issues I think you have a defective in tank electric fuel pump. I would also like you to buy a can of starting fluid and spray it into the air intake of the engine to confirm the loss of fuel pressure the next time this no start occurs. You should also have the systems control computer scanned for codes to make sure you don't have other components that are contributing to this problem

Dennis, It will not start now in the garage. As I said, I was having trouble starting the car, but it would start. Now it is a no go. Should I attempt this anyway now? Or would I hurt something else in the process?

I gave you instructions on what to try, did you read them?

I tried the starting fluid and it is still no go. I would not mess with it now, but Kia will not come and get it. It has been service call about a leak?? in the fuel line of which will be fixed by Kia. We live about 60 mi. from Kia and they wont come and get it unless we pay for all the charges. I am retired now and am in a wheelchair and I do not have an extra $200.00 or 300.00 for this so I will keep thinking.

Sorry to hear of your money troubles but that doesn't affect what this car needs to get it running again, it is one of those things that falls under "it is what it is" categories. I asked you if the computer control module for the engine has any trouble codes in memory, please do that test, it will require a OBS2 code 5reader or a electronic engine control scanner. The test plug to hook it up to is under the dash on the drivers side. Please do the test and get back to me with any faults codes your read. Good luck on this. Dennis

2011 KIA Sorrento 2.4 were is the fuel pressure regulator located. put on adjustable fuel reg .need to disconnect stock one

fuel pressure regulators are normally located in the fuel manifold. They are either vacuum controlled or electronic controlled to maintain the right fuel pressure for engine requirements and to shut off the fuel pump when the ignition is turned off
If your manually adjusted unit will not do all that then you are asking for fault codes to appear and all sorts of problems to occur

My Kia Sorento will start and then it won't start, replaced the fuel pump, but did not replace the fuel filter can this be the problem

When the fuel pump was replaced it is important that you install a new fuel filter as it is necessary to have a clean filtered fuel into the pump. Also check the injectors and the spark plugs.
If the spark intensity is low check the HT COILS and the ignition system triggers to the HT coils.
If spark is good then the fuel pressure and calibration must solve the issue.
Take help for consensus.
Thank you for using fixya.

2003 Kia sorento starts and then won't start

There is a black rubber button reset switch right next to the air box, press it sounds like the problem i had its a fuel pump reset (just in case of a wreck it kills the car) but there is a tiny ball in there and if it is rattled a little too much it will fall and you need to press the black looking button to reset it....took me like 4 months to figure it out
