Check your contact points are set correctly, or may even be burned , if so replace them , its a comon thing if the contact points are badly set ,when you put the car in gear it will stall or wont idle , i had a 67 t/bird landau that did exactly the same , , turning off the highway was a night mare ,i had to keep the accelerator pressed while i braked , otherwise it would stop and then i would have no steering ,very annoying and very dangerous

Takes a long time for fuel pump to prime before car will crank. sometimes 15+ minutes

Something is definitely wrong with this picture. It should only take 2 or 3 seconds for the pump to make correct pressure. Just turning the key to on turns the pump on to pressurize the system, then pump will shut off, maintaining pressure, until the computer gets an engine cranking signal, at which time pump should come back on, and stay running when engine is running.
The only way to check fuel pressure is with a fuel pressure gauge hooked onto the fuel rail. If you check and pressure is correct and doesn't drop right away, the problem is elsewhere, not in the fuel delivery. You said takes a long time before car will crank-is there a problem with the engine cranking over with key in start? That would be an ignition or starting circuit problem, not having anything to do with the fuel pressure.

Sounds like a crank sensor or a mass air flow sensor. Take it to an Auto parts store and have them read the trouble code for you. It will tell you what circuit is affected.

  • The codes will start to flash on the power loss or check engine light.
  • FLASH,pause,FLASH,FLASH=code 12

Circuit Or Condition

1=Normal

2=Oxygen Sensor

3=Crank Angle Sensor

4=Air Flow Sensor

5=Atmospheric Pressure Sensor

6=Throttle Position Sensor

7=Motor Position Switch

8=Coolant Temperature Sensor
If there are no codes...Do you have spark? Do you have fuel at the rail?

Car sometimes starts hard like 1 out of every 5 starts and runs rough most times may even die out acts like a miss dies every time it is put in gear unless u foot brake it every so often you start it and...

try putting some injector cleaner into the gasoline tank because sometimes your fuel injectors do get clogged up and needs to be cleaned to allow the lower 87 octane through the injectors. Some of the times that the timing belt has been changed and misses with the timing with the piston heads and valves which opens and shuts while the gasoline fuel is being put into the piston heads chambers so if your timing is off would cause this similar problem as well.

New battery and it still won't crank at times.

you would need an ohm meter or a test light to figure out what is drawing voltage. you probably have short some where or, just perhaps the ignition switch is bad.

My '95 Thunderbird wil turn over but randomly will not start.

Your crank sensor may be really dirty and can't get a good signal from the reluctor near the balancer. Check the wiring harness to it as well. You may need a new crank sensor.
