Question about 1994 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

No power to fuel pump...no start

I bought a 1994 Jetta and the owner stated that the fuel pump was bad. There is no power to the fuel pump, but when I bridge the relay it works. I have swapped out with new relays and still the same issue. I need some suggestions on things I could test or try to get my car to start. Thanks

Hi have had this problem once on mates jetta with exact symptoms? can you explain please what you do when you bridge the relay and pump ?works does engine then start? or did you not proceed that far? just for info the fault i found was a loose soldered connection on a terminal on rear of fuse/ relay box which gave intermittant fault but fresh connection and new wire cured it? so try checking relay socket/wires? it was an auto sparks mate that gave me the info and said common occurance on jettas back then hope this helps ?

Accleration, exhaust smoke.

Sounds like you have a fuel-to-air ratio problem causing you to exhaust raw fuel from your exhaust pipe. you could have bad fuel injector, fuel pump, or carborator, if you don't have fuel injection system. Running that way for extended times will fill your engine with carbon deposits that will need to be cleaned up. Also could lead to excelerated piston ring wear. Be sure spark plugs are working properly to insure fuel is igniting. Since spark plugs are ignited via the distributor and ignition coil(s), this system should be check if spark plugs are having irregular ignition. Check timing to insure distributor is working properly. If you have changed gas from premium to regular, this could reduce your engine power, assuming that timing was adjusted to the previous gas. Check owner's manual for proper fuel usage.

Where is the fuse for the fuel pump on a 94 grand marquis

There appear to be 2 fuses that can affect the fuel pump. #8 which provides power for the fuel pump, and #4 which provides power for the fuel pump relay. Both of these fuses are in the High Current fuse panel, which is located in the engine compartment near the battery.

The warning in the owners manual states: Always disconnect the battery before servicing high current fuses.Ford recommends that high current fuses be replaced by a qualified technician.

93 jetta will not stay running even though it has gas in it

I would bet that your fuel line is either clogged with dirt or you fuel pump is not working. Pull the air cleaner or cover off of the injector. Then try to start the car. If you don't get anything then try a small amount of gas into the injector. Try starting immediately. If it starts then dies it's one of the two. If the engine continues to run it is most likely your fuel injector or a slight chance it is a fuse. VW's are great cars but they can be tempermental. Have you googled your car year and make for recalls or simlar issues with other owners? Good Luck

1994 vw jetta no fuel and ignition

It sounds like you may need an ignition contact block. It turns everything on. If all the idiot lights come on when you turn the key to on. Then move the key to start the engine. Note the engine can turn over but no ignition power or fuel can be do to the contacts in the block. Take notice if the idiot lights stay on, or turns off when you crank the engine to start. The lights should stay on.
The contact block is not an easy fix and can take a few hours. The procedures are found online. Steve

1994 volkswagen jetta won't start sometimes

it sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere, what i would suggest is to take it to a autozone and have them put in on the computer. If it is the fuel filter, it is a quick fix not more than 20-60mins.
-I look forward to your post
