SOURCE: 99 Chevy Z71 heater core inlet hose male fitting broke

if repairable (not really sure of this) heater core will have to be removed in order to get the remainder of the plastic extension off the nipple on the core. The replacement part would need to be heated in order to shrink it back in place. This may be a factory assembly. I'm sure someone could make a fitting extension using some type of heat shrink arrangement the major problem is that if you try to clamp anything on there the clamp will be in the way when assembling it in the heater box.
bottom line is that either way it needs to come out...check with dealer or a good radiator shop to see what they have or recommend as a repair.

check closer to just underneath the firewall--it could be a smaller problem than a heater core--Ford 4.6--5.4 engines have a tube just underneath the intake manifold that the rubber hose goes bad and it will leak towards the back of the engine.Lets hope so-what i hear its very expensive to change a heater core in an Expedition.

You can bypass the core or fix it that's up to you but I would change or remove the thermostat first. If it still overheats then start looking at the water pump and radiator. Hope this helps. Good luck.

How to replace the heater core to a chevy astro 2003


  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2. Reposition the outlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  3. Remove the outlet heater hose from the heater core.
  4. Reposition the inlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  5. Remove the inlet heater hose from the heater core.
  6. Remove the screws that retain the cover to the heater case assembly. This is located underneath the dash on the passenger side.
  7. Remove the straps that retain the heater core to the heater case assembly.
  8. Remove the heater core from the vehicle.

My van is leaking antifreeze from somewhere by the firewall of the van not the radiator. Its the metal hose that has a hole in it but i can't figure out the name of these metal (aluminum)hoses.


The metal hose by the firewall is either your heater core inlet pipe or outlet pipe. These inlet and outlet pipes will develop leaks for a varity of reasons. If this is the source of your leak, you may want to replace the entire heater core which is much easier than trying to fix the leak. The attached link will help you.

2006 grand prix heater only blows cold air. both heater hoses are hot blower motor works fine.


Sounds like the temperature blend door actuator may be bad or the vacuum hose to it is disconnected.

Poor Heater System Performance CAUTION
Check all fluid levels and adjust as needed, before operating vehicle for extended periods at idle.
  1. Start the engine.
  2. Idle the engine until the thermostat opens (upper radiator hose will be hot) Is the engine at normal operating temperature (approx. 200° F)? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 16.
  3. Set the mode selector to FLOOR mode.
  4. Set the heater control selector to the warmest temperature setting.
  5. Set the blower speed the lowest setting.
  6. Carefully feel the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to the next step.
  7. Set the mode selector to PANEL mode.
  8. Select the maximum blower speed.
  9. Select the warmest temperature setting.
  10. Place a thermometer into the center I/P PANEL air outlet and affix a second thermometer to the heater core outlet heater hose.
  11. Record the temperature at the center I/P PANEL air outlet and at the heater core outlet heater hose. Are the two temperature readings about equal? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 13.
  12. Inspect and repair the cowl, cowl area, recirculation door, and the HVAC evaporator/heater core case for cold air leaks. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  13. Inspect the temperature door operation. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  14. Turn OFF the engine. Back-flush the heater core. Start the engine. Select the FLOOR mode and the lowest blower speed. Select the warmest temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose feel significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 17.
  15. Replace the heater core. When the repair is completed, go to step 17.
  16. Check for low engine temperature problems, Repair or replace as needed, go to step 17.
  17. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If the system operates properly, the repair is complete. If the heater still does not work properly, repeat the entire procedure.

Removal & Installation 1997-2002 To Remove:
NOTE: Heater core must be vacuum leak tested before it is remove from vehicle if a heater core leak is suspected.
  1. Drain engine coolant.
  2. Remove instrument panel.
  3. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, remove junction splash shield.
  4. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, disconnect starter relay cable. ford-03-00-3579.gif

  5. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, remove junction block bracket.
  6. Clamp inlet and outlet heater hoses.
  7. Disconnect heater hose from heater core by gently pressing it toward heater core.
  8. Remove A/C plenum demister adapter.
  9. Disconnect vacuum line.
  10. Remove 13 plenum chamber top screws.
  11. Remove blend door assembly from case.
  12. Remove heater core.
To Install:
NOTE: If needed, clean and lubricate coolant hoses with plain water.

The problem is the heater core leaking behind the dashboard. Heater Core Removal & Installation 1997-2002 To Remove:

How to replace a heater core in a 2002 chevy astro van


Heater Core Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2. Release and reposition the outlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  3. Remove the outlet heater hose from the heater core.
  4. Release and reposition the inlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  5. Remove the inlet heater hose from the heater core.
  6. Remove the screws that retain the cover to the heater case assembly.
  7. Remove the straps that retain the heater core to the heater case assembly.
  8. Remove the heater core from the vehicle.
To Install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2. Refill the cooling system.

97 ford f150 4.6 the pipe that gos to heater core hose is leaking. is this pipe pressed in? thanks


The inlet/outlet pipes (tubing) is an integral part of the heater core. If the actual core is leaking, you 'll need to remove and replace or repair the heater core. Be sure it's not the hose that is failing ... alot easier and cheaper to change out a hose and clamps...

Heater core is leaking


Good Day'
The first thing I would check is make sure that it is the heater core that is leaking. It could be just a hose inlet or outlet.
If the hose are ok then the heater core needs to be change.
