Lacks power when excelerating

I have a 7.3L turbo diesel that just had the transmission rebuilt. when I am on the highway trying to get up to speed it feels like it lacks power to get up hills and to pass other vehicles. what could it be? i also have a problem with the main tank. i was driving around all day and the next day it died on me. i changed the fuel filter and it would not start. when i switched to the second tank it fired up and has been driving ok but lacking power.

Your second tak is farther away from the motor more line to leak air could be getting into the fuel line from the second tank and that is big loss of power and performance the issue i think you are haveing with the first tank is just the switch is probubly going bad.

It's possible it's your fuel pump getting ready to fail. There was a recall a number of years back on the fuel pump, which your local Ford dealer should replace for free.

How do I build/repair a damaged wiring harness for a 1984 VW Jetta GL 1.6L non-turbo diesel 5 speed, manual steering?

You could try to just cut out the bad part and solder in the new wire to the good part of the old. Also clean up the affected area.

Have you checked the PCV system?? If its stuck in the closed position then you will lack power and turbo boost. A vehicle needs 3 things to make it run proper; FUEL,FIRE and AIR. Try that and see if it helps.

I have a 98 suburban 6.5 turbo diesel it has an intermittent issue of lack of power and lots of black smoke engine and turbo have been rebuilt a new diesel pump just installed as fault codes came up with...

replace the boost sensor its about $60 that will clear the PO236 codes (i beleive that was the code)
Duralast part # is su129 and has a lifetime warranty. located under the "turbo power" engine cover if you havent removed that yet take it off and leave it off reduces heat
sounds like your vacuum pump is bad remove it, buy a 99.5" serpentine belt and do a mechanical wastegate. adjust the spring to the boost you want. good luck

Same problem on mine was a block fuel filter (quite common). About £70 fitted by main dealer. I'd stay away from whoever told you the above and get a second opinion!

Turbo lag and lack of power

Hi,
This is the second Vw I have responded to in a fortnight.
Your lack of power I presume always happens when the glow plug light illuminates?
This is because it is causing over combustion to vaporised diesel, I would be looking in the Glow plug timer and relay, as for Turbo lag, I run a E34 6 cyl Bmw Diesel and the Turbo only kicks in around 2,500ish so maybe yours is a little tired or in need of a check up?
Hope this helped,

Slow on starting , holds back when driving, even on an A road or motorway my vehicle is mitsubishi shogun long wheel base 2.8 turbo diesel

turbo must have a problem or remember tro vehicles have turbo lag. . . usually mitsu's turbos start giving power around 2500prm - 3000rpm. .

but usually on older turbo diesel mitsus the turbos are the first to go. . . .

Check all electric connections going to transmission as (od) is electrically activated. check the conections and entire wire path for damage. OD can be disengaged by slowing speed or slight tap of brake pedal so check disengage switch and wires on brake pedal. I hope this is helpful, please rate me
