DTC P1391 is "Intermittent loss of Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) or Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)". So the problem is with the CMP or CKP or the wiring in the circuit.
The Camshaft Position Sensor is located in the distributor on all engines.
DTC's - 78283585.gif For this test, an analog (non-digital) voltmeter is needed. Do not remove the distributor connector from the distributor. Using small paper clips, insert them into the backside of the distributor wire harness connector to make contact with the terminals. Be sure that the connector is not damaged when inserting the paper clips. Attach voltmeter leads to these paper clips.

  1. Connect the positive (+) voltmeter lead into the sensor output wire. This is at done the distributor wire harness connector.
  2. Connect the negative (-) voltmeter lead into the ground wire.
  3. Set the voltmeter to the 15 Volt DC scale.
  4. Remove distributor cap from distributor (two screws). Rotate (crank) the engine until the distributor rotor is approximately in the 11 o'clock position. The movable pulse ring should now be within the sensor pickup.
  5. Turn ignition key to ON position. Voltmeter should read approximately 5.0 volts.
  6. If voltage is not present, check the voltmeter leads for a good connection.
  7. If voltage is still not present, check for voltage at the supply wire.
  8. If 5 volts is not present at supply wire, check for voltage at PCM 32-way connector (cavity A-17). Leave the PCM connector connected for this test.
  9. If voltage is still not present, perform vehicle test using the DRB scan tool.
  10. If voltage is present at cavity A-17, but not at the supply wire:
    1. Check continuity between the supply wire. This is checked between the distributor connector and cavity A-17 at the PCM. If continuity is not present, repair the harness as necessary.
    2. Check for continuity between the camshaft position sensor output wire and cavity A-18 at the PCM. If continuity is not present, repair the harness as necessary.
    3. Check for continuity between the ground circuit wire at the distributor connector and ground. If continuity is not present, repair the harness as necessary.

  11. While observing the voltmeter, crank the engine with ignition switch. The voltmeter needle should fluctuate between 0 and 5 volts while the engine is cranking. This verifies that the camshaft position sensor in the distributor is operating properly and a sync pulse signal is being generated. If sync pulse signal is not present, replacement of the camshaft position sensor is necessary.
Since you replaced the CKP, we can assume it is good for the time being. But I would inspect the flywheel for damage. A damaged flywheel will make a good CKP send a bad signal.

My pt cruiser has code 1391. i changed cam sensor crank sensor wires plugs and coil still getting 1391 code and from 0 mph to 20 mph car skips and revs up any ideas?


The cam and crank sensors have the same power wire. Go after that one. They also have the same ground, but other sensors connect to it also. So it's not the ground. And they have separate return signal wires. Not them either.

Have 97 dakota v6 i keep replacing 1391 andpo351 plugs and wires


Not sure I am following your story.
Code 351 is a problem with the primary OR secondary circuit for the coil.
Code 1391 is a problem with the ABS system.

What is code 1391 for on 1999 jeep grand cherokee


Code 1391 = An intermittant loss of CMP (crankshaft position sensor) or CKP (crankshaft position sensor. This code could be related to just a bad connection at either sensor or the wiring harness, check the connections and be sure they are clean and tight fitting with no loose wire connections also within the connector itself. Otherwise you may end up replacing one or both of theses sensors to correct this issue,unless you have an oscilloscope to isolate which sensor.

I'm looking for the engine codes for a dodge intrepid codes are 1391 - 0134 - 1684.... I am trying to replace the oxygen sensors...how do you know which ones to replace?


1391 is a timing code cam or crank sensor
0134 bank 1 sensor 1 usually left front but double check
1684 doesn't match anything i know

The code 1391 is : Intermittent loss of CMP or CKP

You are losing either the cam or crank sensor intermittently. Test and replace as needed. Check plug ends first.

Code 0700 with 1391 stand to what


P0700 its a transmission codefrom what i understand while the 1391 is a crank postion sensor. the P0700 comes up when the neutral safety switch starts to fail, but the crank postion sensor...to get that error code, means you timing could be off..have you replaced a timing belt lately, if so, it might be a couple of teeth out, that might do it. i would check the sensor too though

Engine keeps missing. unknown codes


Code 1682 indicates low battery voltage. This could be a problematic alternator, which would likely cause misfiring. Autozone should be able to check this for you for free.

Code 1391 indicates the computer can not see the crank or cam sensor signal. This would likely be a result of the misfires.

Code 0320 indicates the crankshaft position sensor reference signal could not be found while the engine is cranking.

All of these issues point to either a cam/crank sensor malfunction or a charging system problem, either or both of which could cause the misfiring.
