Chevy blazer fuel pressure check

Key on fuel pressure 60lbs. then drops to 0 lbs... will not start until fuel pressure slowly rises to 60lbs.

    Filter has been replaced..... fuel presure once the engine starts maintains 60psi at all engine rpm and loads.... on other GM cars I've owned.. with the key on, they maintain fuel pressure for a good long time... also believe that on starting the fuel pressure rises slowy due to starters drag on Batt.

    A bad filter would have shown a pressure drop under a load " driving the car" turns out there is a internal check valve in the pump module...... if the check valve doesn't hold then pressure drops fast with key is on.. when engaging starter it pulls alot of power from battery and it took 10-15 sec for the pump to reach 55psi... after replacing the pump 55psi of fuel pressure is maintained and ready for start...thanks

Possible fuel pump issue causing fuel to drain back into the tank. Check valve inside pump may be bad. Once vehicle is turned on it may take a few seconds to prime up the fuel lines until operating pressure is reached. Put a pressure guage on the fuel rail and start the vehicle. Should be approx 55-60lbs running. Turn off vehicle and leave it sit with guage attached and monitor for pressure dropping off to 0. If so, suspect a bad pump

first check fuel pressure with a gauge, it should rise with the key on and hold, then check in the start mode, it sholud remain fairly constant, if there is a drop in start mode it could be the pump is not getting voltage during crank, with the key on pressure drop could be in the pressure regulator or the pump, good luck

Hi:
The fuel pumps on the Chevy blazer and their full sized trucks are prone to failing, as I had to change mine on my 1996, and yours is the same model .
Ours started off intermittently dieing, then failed all together. If you have matched up the fact that you have no fuel pressure when your blazer won't start, then the fuel pump is the most likely suspect. As you know, they are not cheap, and the fuel tank is not difficult to remove, but needs to be close to empty to make the job managable. The tank is over 3 feet long, and is better removed with 2 people if you can find help.

1997 chevy blazer getting fuel and spark but not starting, only backfiring through carb.


You need 3 things.
Compression
Good hot blue spark to all plugs.
Good gasoline and proper fuel pressure. 63-64 lbs.
If you have all 3 then move on to injector pulse to all injectors.
I think each injector is on a separate driver on that one.
Check for pulse to all of them.

You may be weak on fuel pressure . even a couple of lbs low on a cold start will cause a no start.
Double check cold start cranking fuel pressure. If under 63-62 lbs you have problems.
one test is to give it a squirt of carb cleaner not starting fluid. If it starts then you have a fuel pressure problem.
Run the full fuel pressure test and post back pressures.
Here is the guide lines on testing.
Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel. Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.


The 75-85 is only a check on the capable full pressure of fuel pump.
If you can not find the rubber return line check full pressure by plugging return line or just or the true full pressure can be taken direct at the end fuel filter.
What are the pressure readings that you have when done.
What are your cold start pressure readings?

probably not fuel filter . probably going to have to remove the upper intake and replace the fuel injector spider(fuel inj assebly) if it is droping fuel pressure it is leaking into the upper manifold

Check the fuel filter to make sure it is not pluged up, also check fuel presure, if its ok you possibly have a pluged cat. converter.
