There are instructions at Autozone.com for replacement of most parts. Shop for your part then at the screen where the parts are listed there will be a link for"repair information." Here is the page :http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c15280049b2e If your boots have been open for any length of time it is better to replace the halfshaft since the joints have been contaminated and will fail eventually anyway.

My granddaughter's 2000 Stratus makes a front end noise turning left but not right. Half shaft or CV joint?

I'd say constant velocity joint. It's been my experience that the offending side is usually opposite from the direction being turned. Turn the wheel to each extreme side and get a look at the c.v. boots. If it's ripped or torn it's a good indication that foreign material has entered it and caused excessive wear. If I've helped, please rate my assistance. Thank you and Happy Holidays.

its better to change the whole axle it has both cv joints and both boots and its faster to do . the cv joint cant be changed with the axle in the car you have to remove the axle so you just install the replacement axle and your done just pick up a chilton manual at any auto part store for your car it gives you step by step instructions . price the cv joint and the whole axle and see the difference hope this helps

One would have to remove the half shaft to service the cv joint properly.

Replace cv assembly and also attempt to lift up rear

Best to replace both sides and yes it is the whole axle assembly for each side, as for the struts on the back there are no springs on these struts.

How do you change a cv joint on a 1992 dodge caravan? The right cv joint is out. Do we need to replace the right axel or can we just change the cv joint?

You need to replace the whole right side axle shaft. Take the ball-joint loose and the axle nut. Pull the shaft from the hub assembly and then pull it from the transmission

Changing inside front cv rubber

to do this right, you have to remove the axle and separate the rzeppa joint in the inboard axle. Typically, by the time you purchase the boot, grease and figure the time it will take you, along with the constant slide hammer beating, then you will decide to purchase an entire axle with a lifetime warranty somewhere. Stay away from A1 Cardone. Get a new one if you can afford it, or a good reman from Napa, Carquest, Worldpac or IMC.

You'll thank me later for the trouble this will save you.

How often to replace cv boots/cv joints/axle?

If something off the road tore the boot, yes but if it has not been tore long and you don't hear any clicking noises around corners, you can just replace the boot.
