Where is fuel filter located 2004 toyota tacoma extra cab prerunner?

The fuel filter is underneath the intake plenum on the left side of the engine. To access it, you don't need to take off the intake or remove the starter like some have recommended. Take off the driver side front tire and access it through the wheel well. You may need to take off some plastic mud flaps and whatnot, but when I did this, it was a piece of cake. Make sure before you take off the banjo fittings on both sides of the fuel filter that you release the fuel pressure in the lines(take off the fuel cap).

Oil filter on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner with 6 cylinder IS a screw on filter located on the drivers side front of the engine (just beneath the alternator).

Can't recall the size but, you need a socket with extension to get to the bolts holding the skid pan then, wiggle/lift it from it's hooks. Then, you can either cuss, cuss, cuss while removing the old and installing the new OR, jack the drivers side up 4 to 6 inches ( gives you a bit more wiggle room and keeps you from scraping your elbow to the bone on whatever surface you're working on).

Even then, be ready for a good cussing bout because there still isn't much room.

I assume you have never replaced a head gasket, if you have to ask? Or, do you just need help now you have it apart?

I have a 2000 Tacoma Extra Cab Pre Runner. When I put on my camper shell my check engine light comes on. Oil levels and tires are fine. I took my shell off and light goes off. I hauled alot of wood and the light did not come on. Why would the camper shell be trip-en my light? Ofcourse I am gunna get the code checked next week.

In the engine bay, on the firewall, behind the engine if it's a 2.7L I4. It'll be tricky to change due to space constraints.

It's probably not the fuel filter. I would suggest replacement sparkplugs, and wires, since you did not nmention these items. Also, use plugs from a Toyota parts dept. If you use anything else, it won't run properly.

i would check and make sure that the TPS and the MAP sensor are operating properly

the trans should be serviced if it is an automatic (fluid and filter), the fuel filter should be changed ( a restricted filter can ruin the fuel pump in the tank), the air filter should be changed, make sure the chassis lubed if it has lube zerks. Clean or replace the PCV valve.
