Try removing gas cap to relieve tank pressure. Then turn on your ignition and listen for the initial whine of the fuel pump powering up. If it does then check your in line fuel filter for clogging.

how do I check the fuel line for clogs?

Under the cab on the drivers side. Follow the fuel lines from the gas tank forward. You will find a fuel filter in the supply line. Not very expensive so best to just replace it. If you have never changed it in an 88 it probably should be.

My truck sat up for probably 3 or 4 years cranked and run fine yesterday but today it wont crank at all any ideas?

If it won't crank over, it's not a fuel issue, but a starting circuit issue. The gas may be stale, but if tank was full all that time, I don't think that would be a problem.
Pull off the small wire on the starter solenoid, and see if it has power when key is held in crank position. If power there, the starter or solenoid or the battery connections from battery to starter need to be checked or tested. If no power to solenoid when key is in cranking position, the ignition switch may be bad or the neutral safety switch (or the clutch start switch if a manual) or the starter relay needs to be checked.
If you get it cranking, and still no start, look down the throttle body bore and watch your injector spray pattern while the engine is cranking-you should see a fine, cone spray pattern coming from the bottom of the injector. If it just drips and no cone pattern, or no gas coming out, injectors need cleaning (probably from stale gas). Good luck.

98 ford windstar van ran out of gas and now wont start even after refueling.

To review - - the fuel pump in the tank pumps fuel to the injectors.
There is a fuel shut-off which works in a wreck to prevent a fire.
If the plunger is down, the switch is on. Normal.

It is possible the fuel lines are full of air which would take a long time to purge by cranking the engine. Sometimes you have to use starting fluid or other means to "run" the engine long enough to get gas back into the injectors.
As long as the engine cranks, the battery is fine.
It is also possible the pump was damaged when the tank was run empty. The pump uses liquid fuel to cool and lubricate the electric pump. It can overheat when running the tank below 1/4 full.
It is also possible the fuel filter was clogged with junk from the bottom of the tank.
I would get someone to check for fuel pressure at the injectors and try some carb cleaner or starting fluid in the intake hose next.

Why my 2005 chevy astro loose power when driving, could it be catalytic converter going bad

When it comes to loosing power the only thing left is your Carb. or your injectors. your Catalyitc converter won't make you lose power, that is part of your exhuast system. run some Carb or Injector cleaner in your gas tank next time you fiill up, I use a pint of Acidton per 15 gallons but I don't suggest you do that, buy some injecter cleaner at pep boys.

My 1996 chevy blazer won't start. we changed the the fuel pump, fuel pump filter checked the relay and she turns over once we put gas in the carb. body. help please

Have you ever put in the gasoline tank any injector cleaner yet because the cleaner will unclog the injectors so full amounts of gasoline can get into the piston chambers the right amounts so try putting injector cleaner into your gas tank. When you put this into the gas tank to remember that it takes time for the cleaner to get to the injectors so you might have to keep trying to start the vehicle many times for the cleaner to unclog the injectors. This will not hurt your vehicle at all so go try this.

A friend put oil into a gas tank I used to fill my truck up. Truck won't start but it keeps turning trying to. Now I believe the fuel injector is clogged or dirty and is keeping my truck from starting....

yeah sound like your fuel injectors are clogged...I would first change and the fuel filters and go to wal mart and buy "sea foam" fuel injector cleaner its in a white and red metal can this stuff is awesome!...and add it too a full tank of gas run the vehicle till the gas tank is empty..if this doesn't fix it you will need to flush out the entire fuel system and flush out the fuel tank

Best do a fuel pressure test. Should have chg. fuel filter from the get go. The only other filter is on the end of the fuel pump in tank. Bad gas and dirty gas will plug up fuel filter, hense burn pump up.

Try running a Can or two of B12 Chemtool through the Fuel system with a Full tank of gas. 1 can per tank. Usually works for me. This will clean the Injectors, Jets, Valves, and ANY Carbon buildup anywhere in there.

My gas gauge doesn't work

Hi,

Typical for concerns such as yours would be the sending unit inside the tank. In some cases, it would just be a connector that has been disengaged, loose or corroded, often however, it would be the internal float and the position sensor. A quick temporary workaround is to use carb/injector cleaner to be poured inside your fuel tank. It is intended to clean the fuel system from the tank to the injectors and in so doing also cleans the sensor. Of course the correct procedure would be to bring down the tank, remove the sending unit and physically clean the inside or replace.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
