i have the same problem on my mg zr 105. It doesnt always start, no sound at all. Got it going the other day with a screwdriver across the starter. Had a diagnostics test done on it and it says IMMOBILISER fault, apparantly it keeps turning itself on and off. So thats why it starts if and when it wants, i assume. The other thing that concerned me was a high pitched noise coming from under the bonnet, i have been told this is probably the ECU not turning itself off. Any ideas as to what to do???

Could be a faulty battery, but more likely that it is in the starter solenoid area. Try holding the key in the start position and giving the starter motor a tap with a hammer or a metal bar. Other than that, it could be a fault with the immobiliser system, is there a red light in the dash flashing fast when you turn the key to the start position? There a quite a few other things that could cause this problem, and you are best to take the vehicle in to a mechanic or Ford dealer for diagnosis if it is nothing simple. If cost is a concern, give the mechanic a upper limit that he can spend on diagnosis and repair.

Now,it's time to check the starter out,a clicking noise means starter is bad,you have to remove and take to auto part store and they will test for free, your battery was probably good. Here's a link on a repair guide on replacing your starter Gabriel. What does error code 88888 mean on a 2001 Chrysler 300m?

Multiple clicking indicates a weak battery. Get a slow charger to bring it up gently or, if in a hurry get someone to do a jump start. Once running you will need to check gauges for a charging problem. If no lights indicate a bad charging system, you will need a new battery.

I have a 1990 Laser RS Turbo. Won't start, no spark at plugs but spark at coil. I hear a rapid clicking sound behind the radio on the passenger but all the time. When I try to start it it just turns...

normally a quick clicking sound means that the battery is low in voltage and amperage, but first check your connectors and the battery posts to make sure they are clean and secure. if you have a tester, check for voltage at the battery, you should be getting 12 volts or more.if you have 12 volts+,turn on the headlights and test the battery to see if it is retaining 12 volts or not, this is known as a load test. if voltage falls rapidly your battery should be changed.if it holds charge pretty well, than put thr battery on slow charge overnight and retry starting the vehicule.nb. the clicking noise is caused by the onboard computer that reads the voltage before startup and under 11.5 volts your car will make this sound.if your car starts put the tester on the battery again and check voltage,it should be 13volts or higher which means your alternator is charging the battery.

2000 focus zts. Battery is good so is starter. Went to start and all I get is a clicking sound.

What do you mean the battery is good, and so is the starter? Did you have them tested? What kind of clicking sound? Is it a single click when you turn the key or multiple clicks as long as you hold the key in the start position? Have you checked for voltage at the large post on the starter? There should be 12V. If not, you have a break in your supply line. It could be a bad fuse/fusible link.

2004 Dodge Caravan with 3.3 ltr eng. Won't start,

This sounds like a classic bad connection either at the battery or engine ground. Check and recheck all your connections and be sure they are clean and tight.

Mazda RX8 starting problem

Check that your battery is fully charged. If it does not sustain a charge , replace it. Clean the cables and battery posts with baking soda and water mixture. About 1/4 cup to a pint. If it still does not turn with a fully chared battery, it is probably the starter that is bad. It will have to be replaced. One click usually means the starter is bad. Several clicks usually means the battery is bad.
