Question about 2004 Saturn ION

1 Answer

Yellow Check Engine (Emissions Light) keeps coming on after having my car serviced for the light.

My yellow check engine light keeps coming on. The latest time I took it to the dealer service center and they replaced my gas cap, changed my oil and filter, flushed my engine brakes, and cleaned my fuel injectors. Now 7 days later its back on. I am not sure why this light keeps coming on I have 126,000 miles on my car and I'm too deep in money wise to give up on it now. Any help on why this is happening or advice would help.

In order to help you I would need to know what codes are causing the light to come on. If they replaced the gas cap I would assume that there is a large evap leak but the code will tell me this for sure.

You can pull the codes yourself with a code reader that you can purchase for about $50.

You can call you local parts store and see if they can do this for you.

since it has only been a week you can ask the dealer if they can check to see if the same code has returned. If it is the same code than they should be responsible for rechecking there work at no cost to you.

Testimonial: "I have had my CVT transmission replaced ($4500), and now it seems like the rest of my car is deciding to fail. To have anyone even look at my car it has been $69.99 minimum diagnostic checks. This advice and reassurance is appreciated more than you know. To know I'm not being cheated by the dealership like most people assume is exactly what I wanted to hear. Thank You!! Thank You!! Thank You!! "

I took it into the dealer this morning and they told me one of my hoses that carry fumes had split. The total cost will be $153.21 after taxes. The part was $28 to order, does 125 in labor and tax sound about right. The local shops in my city aren't honest or reliable so I'm scared to have any work done elsewhere

without knowing what part specifically i couldn't say. It sounds about right and considering the other more expensive parts it could be sounds fairly cheap.

I'd also have to guess that there hourly rate is around $125 and they are charging you around an hour to replace the part.

Check Engine Light comes off and on

When the Check Engine Light is flashing ON it means that the computer has detected a misfire in the engine. It is not good to drive a vehicle that has a flashing check engine light; one or more sensor in your vehicle is advise about an code fault. I suggest scanning for know what code is in there and solve it.

In some vehicles, a red check-engine light means the car needs absolute immediate attention while a yellow check-engine light means you need to make an appointment soon. The light is used to indicate PCM (Powertrain Control Module) problems that are associated with your vehicle's emissions system.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Yellow indicator light on dash of 560 sec

This is the emissions system warning light, commonly referred to as the "Check Engine" light.
Please read on.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light (or Service Engine Soon) is turned on, the systems computer control unit (called the ECM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 50 possible system faults. To find out which one is causing a problem have the system scanned by a local shop with a MB compatible scan tool.

My check engine light keeps blinkin on my 2003 chevy impala and keeps shakin

Take it in, a blinking check engine light is not a good sign. Solid yellow is ok, blinking yellow or red is in need of service. Get the codes checked asap.

Yellow warning light on dashboard what is it and can i till drive it

This sounds like the check engine light, it is safe to drive the car, but read about what causes this light to come on below. U can have any Kragen auto test the system for free.
Why my Yellow Check Engine is on?
The engine computer or PCM/ECM

All modern vehicles have a computer or the ECM (Electronic Control Module) that controls the operation of the vehicle powertrain (the engine and transmission). The main purpose of this is to keep the engine running at top efficiency with the lowest possible emissions. With constantly growing demands for better fuel economy and new strictest emission regulations it's not very easy to achieve. The engine parameters need to be constantly and precisely adjusted according to various conditions such as speed, load, engine temperature, gasoline quality, ambient air temperature, road conditions, etc. That's why today's cars have much more electronics than in early days - there is a large number of various sensors and other electronic devices that help the vehicle computer or ECM to precisely control the engine and transmission operation and monitor emissions.
The vehicle computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and your car needs to be looked at. To properly diagnose what is wrong, you need to take your car to a mechanic or a dealer. The technician at the dealership or a garage will then hook up the scanner to the car computer and retrieve the stored trouble code(s). Then he (she) will look it up in the service manual provided by a car manufacturer. The service manual contains the list of possible codes (about few hundreds) and describes what each code means and what needs to be tested. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, what engine parameter is out of normal range. The technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint a defective part.

A yellow light appeared on my dashboard that looks like an engine. what does that mean

this is your check/service engine light. The only way to tell why it is on, is to have your engine codes read which many part stores will do for free.
