06 xterra shift lock solenoid won't work. How to diagnose if it's the solenoid assembly or the brake switch and which brake switch is it

There is only one brake switch. The other at the brake pedal is for cruise control. You will have to access the shift solenoid and check for power and ground at the solenoid when the brake switch is activated. If power and ground ok, I would suspect shift lock solenoid. Usually if brake switch is the problem the brake lights may not work

My 2006 f150 has new brakes and rotors, fluid full but my dash brake light stays on. Soon as you start it and the whole time you drive. Also the cruise quit too. Once the light went off then the cruise

This sounds like the brake light switch or the control switch on the brake pedal is bad or loose. Check under the dash above the brake pedal there should be one or two switches that tell the brake lights to come on and the cruise control to shut down.

Brake light wiring diagram

Hello, old problem, but I can help you here. Check out the recall on this vehicle. Brake lights run through the hazard light, and multifunction switch (turn signal switch). The recall actually shows you how to diagnose the problem AND which switch to replace. However if you're like me, and follow the instructions, I ended replacing both parts. My problem was a melted female connector that plugs into the brake light switch on top of the pedal. Follow the instructions on the recall page, and check the connector. One of these will be your problem. Seems to be a common problem.

When I step on the brake the cruise control will not disengage

There are 2 switches at the brake pedal. 1 is the brakelight switch & the other is the cruise disengage switch. Possibly 2 faulty switches but you should diagnose first. Check brake light fuse, then disconect brakelight switch, bridge plug brakelight switch if lights come on = faulty switch, check globes

Excursion limited edition. Brake lights stay on.

Check that the pedal height isn't sagging due to low brake fluid level. Also check for adjustment of the brake light switch or the BPP (Brake Pedal Position) switch.

Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Disconnect brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connector.
  3. Remove self locking pin.
  4. Remove switch from brake master cylinder push rod.
  5. Remove push rod spacer.
  6. Remove push rod bushing.

Brake lights come on and go off when they want to

Hello: Make sure the floor mat or anything else is no touching the brake pedal, if nothing touching the you may have a brake light switch that is unremittingly failing, loose, and/or out of adjustment. Switch is mounted on/near the brake pedal. Next time it occurs wiggle the pedal with your hand. If it goes out it may help you diagnose the problem.

Cruise control not working

Start easy to difficult. is the fuse bad? If fuse is good, check to see if the cruise engages if while under way you lift up on the brake pedal with your foot. If it engages/works, it's the break pedal switch. This is the switch that turns the cruise off when you step on the brake. It needs adjustment or replacement. If that doesn't work, move on and check the cruise throttle cable or take to trusted mechanic or dealer and have them diagnose/repair.
