Question about 1991 Chevrolet K1500

1 Answer

Ok I have a chevy c1500 1991 5.7 v8 2wd. I was driving home the other day and out of no where the truck was giving gas uncontrollably. I had to use the breaks to slow down and once I got home I had to stand on the brakes pretty much to get it to stop. The I proceeded to put it in park, at this point it was revving very very high as high as it could go pretty much. I popped the hood while it was doing this and took off the battery as this was very sketchy and it still did not stop :/ then I had to sit back and listen to it rev as loud as it could till it finally gave out and back fired..by the way my key was stuck in the ignition so I couldn't cut it off that way which is why I took the battery out. Before I started driving in this situation I was at a gas station and the key was already stuck and my truck would not shift into drive for some reason but eventually it did. Anybody have ANY ideas please help me out!! I have started it up since and it starts to rev up really loud automatically but luckily my key doesn't get stuck now so I can turn it right off.

Check the vacuum hose that goes from the intake manifold to the brake booster sounds like it may have a hole in it.The vacuum leak will cause your motor to idle high and it also will cause your brake very hard because with out vacuum from the engine the brake booster will not work.

Fuel pump may be working but not providing enough fuel pressure to operate the vehicle.Try to see if it will start with alternative fuel such as a sensor safe induction cleaner. If it starts then dies after it burns the cleaner then more then likely the fuel pump is bad.
