Question about 1987 Ford Ranger
When I try to start the starter relay will sometime act as if the battery is low I checked battery load tested ok but noticed neg post was hot when checking to see if cable was loose. Will push start. changed relay twice.checked all connections to starter from battery
Remember also this can be the cells in the battery itself, if after cleaning/replacing your terminals the problem persists, REMOVE the battery and have it tested at your local autozone or the like. But battery out testing can reveal more than an incar badic system/load test.

The reason your negitive cable is hot is because of a bad connection remove it and clean or replace it .
heat is alway the sign of a bad connection.
