If I am under standing your short statement with few details correctly I would say that you are in need of a new radiator. You do mean that there is transmission fluid mixed in with your anti freeze?????

IN HEATER 2001 DEVILLE NOT BLOWING HOT

Kevin, anytime an engine is running hot the very first thing to check is the coolant level in the radiator, if its low enough it will run hot. The second thing to check is coolant flow in the radiator, if it isn't flowing after reaching operating temperature then it could be a stuck thermostat or a restricted radiator or a bad water pump. The third thing to check would be cooling fan operation. If you have an electric cooling fan make sure it is coming on. If it a mechanical fan make sure it starts to spin faster as the engine temperature raises. The final thing to check is a blown head gasket, there is a chemical test you can perform and should be able to buy the kit at the auto parts store. Hello, There are a couple of possibilities for this problem. They range from fixable to having a cracked block.

First, Check your Automatic transmission fluid for foaming on your Escapes' dipstick. If you have an Automatic, the lower core of your Radiator is divided into a water chamber and a transfluid chamber. The transfluid will float and can mix with the antifreeze. Your trans will eventually fail if it is receiving Antifreeze from the engine. I mention this possibility first, because I want you to minimize overall damage to your vehicle. The trans fluid may not have a color leak detector and can resemble oil.

The next possibilities are the head gaskets. With a V-6, you can change only the defective head gasket, while leaving the good head alone. Symptoms to check are discoloration in the sparkplugs and then perform a Cylinder compression test, and/or a Radiator pressure test. Some of the tools you will need may be available with the tool loaner programs at Autozone, Advance, or Oreillys.

By working only on the bad head, you save all the work of unbolting a second manifold and removing a good head for no benefit. If you have the 4 cylinder engine, then you only have 1 cylinder head. When you go to buy your head gasket, check if new head bolts are recommended for your particular end. Strange as it may sound, the original bolts stretch and are 1 time use products.

Sometimes it is best to have the cylinder head machine-tested for cracks. This would also be a good time to have the head rebuilt if it is off anyway. They would resurface the valve seats, check the valve springs and install new valve stem seals. Once you reinstall the head, it is basically new again.

There are chemical products available to patch up problems like yours. The cooling system usually generates under 18PSI while the heads make 160PSI and upwards. So you can see that patching a water leak is easier than dealing with a compression leak and that the oil pressure leak (generates about 50PSI) has more pressure than the cooling system and it a bit harder to plug or stop.

What does it mean when transfluid get into the coolant


The transmission has cooler lines that run to and from the radiator. The fluid is cooled, by running thru tubing inside the one side of the radiator tank. The tubing probably has a leak, causing anti-freeze to get into the transmission. This MUST be repaired, due to the fact that the anti-freeze will do some damage to the transmission.

Hi:
The radiator on your Focus is mostly plastic on the top and bottom, and the middle section is aluminum/ alloy. If you examine the radiator, and are sure it isn't leaking from the hose connection, then the radiator will need repaired. sometimes, small leaks in the middle , metal section are sealed just by using some radiator stop leak in your engine's coolant. A radiator shop can replace the top or bottom plastic piece on your radiator too, and often it is a good idea to check the price of an entire radiator at your local auto parts store, as sometimes you can buy a radiator for less than the cost to repair your old one.
