Question about 2004 Jaguar X-Type

1 Answer

I replaced the starter and am still having bad start ups

My jaguar is making these horrible noises on start up. Replaced the starter and had a better start up but now its making that horrible sound again. Could it really be my alternator? or could it be the gear in the engine that was stripped just a little?

Dodges have a gear reduction in the starter, usually. It could be wearing out. Have it checked out at a rebuild shop.

We've replaced fly wheel, and now the starter and the battery and the truck still won't start and nothing works.

are you sure with parts are the same as the old ones ? If so start again as you started the fitting in order to be sure that everything is in order. I believe either you haven't put the contact ( earth ) or you didn't tight it enough.

How do i align the starter and flywheel so that the horrible squealing sound stops at every start up?

these veh don't have a shim procedure for allignment. sounds like the shaft on the starter is bent or the bolts are not tightened or cross threaded. recheck bolts. if that's not the issue then I would return the starter for a replacement. (note: it happens, once in awhile you will get a bad part, new or rebuilt)

1999 ford torus station wagon will not start . replaced starter 2 weeks ago worked and then started to shrill and then locked up when tried to start. already checked battery connection. have new battery...

sounds like you get to change the starter again, the shrill noise bothers me, remove the starter and take a good look at the ring gear ( the teeth that the starter engages against). make sure their is no damage to them if there is that could be why it keeps eating starters, but my best guess is the starter just went bad some times it is better to spend a little more for Quality parts then to alwise look for the chepest in town......GOOD LUCK

I just had my starter replaced on my 85 Jaguar XJ6 and sometimes when i go to start it, it makes that sound like when you turn the key and the car is already started and sometimes the starter wont engage...

either the starter is not engaging all the way or there is a bad spot on the ring gear, remove the starter and turn the engine and check the ring gear if its good then look at the starter

Starter motor cranks well but emits a horrible screeching noise as it comes to rest after starting engine.. I suspect the bushing in gearbox housing. Anyone experienced this prob. Regards Warren

actually this sound to me as to be the kick out bearing on the starter itself. after it has been on the car for a few years they tend to get moisture into the outer bearing on the starter this washes the grease out over time and it makes a horrible growling, screeching, or rubbing noise after starting. this starter should be replaced in the near future if not it will seize up and just click when trying to start the car....... I hope this has been helpful.

I am no mechanic but on most cars it may indicate poor connections on batery or solonoid or starter.

Have you had the master cylinders replaced? Mine made this exact noise and they replaced the master cylinder.
