I have a 92 lincoln town car and my dash lights or tailights dont work, they dont work when I step on the brakes either. My blinkers, headlights, and hazards still work but not the brake lights...What should I do? changed the alternator and checked the fuses and the bulbs are all still good...Whats next?

SOURCE: 98 lincoln town car flashers, turn signals, brake lights don't work

check the outputs on the multi function switch (t/s switch) the brake lights and flashers all go threw this switch try to wiggle the flasher button if the lights start to work then the switch is bad to replace switch remove bottom cover by pedals if it has one bottom cover on steering colum has i beleave 4 screws that hold it on, the tilt colum lever unthreads and the cover will come off the upper colum just clips on you will have to remove the key tumbler to get it off . you need to disconnect the battery at this point and block the wheels. to get tumbler out put key in and turn to run postion there is a small silver button that pushes in with small screwdriver once its pushed in use the key to pull tumbler out the top cover will now come off you will probably have to tilt colum down and shift to 1 to get cover off there are 2 torx head screws that hold switch on plug new switch in and reconnect battery to test lights unhook battery again and reassemble please let me know how you make out

SOURCE: 1990 lincoln town car how to replace alternator

Remove the Negative Earth Lead to make sure no one can start the engine on you be best start.

Remove the Air that goes into the top of the engine a bolt holds it in place near the butterfly and the tube to the Air filter housing.

Put a 3/4 Wrench into the Tensioner you'll find a cut out square where it fits perfectly into. Push forward if i recall correctly to release the tension on the Serpentine belt and with your spare hand remove the belt from the Alternator.

Unbolt the 2 bolts of the top. remove the pluged in connections. and replace!

Enjoy doing it and becareful to make sure you put the Belt back on correctly and make sure its sat in the other pulleys correctly!

Taillights are not working

check for voltage in the socket. positive is the center connection. if you have no voltage there, then you may be right. Make sure that you check the wires.

Tailights only work on directional and brakes ,no running lights

Usely dash lights and taillights are on the same fuse, if you don't have dash lights you won't have tailights. If you got dash lights than you could have blown bulbs or maybe a bad headlight switch.
