there are plastic push pins that hold the panel on. first remove the screws on the grab handle.if there is a screw on the backing plastic plate for the door latch then remove it also.  look over the whole panel for any remaining screws. use a door panel removal tool or you can make one by cutting a slot in the center of a puddy knife.slide the tool under the plastic pins and gently pry outwards. be careful with these as they break easy. once panel is free lift upwards and away from door handle. you will see it try to catch on the handle. unplug power window and lock wires from switches. now you will see a plastic film covering the door access holes. gently peel this away enough to allow access to the door rod.the handle should have a plastic clip that holds the rod in place. if this is missing or broken then replace with a new clip. one can be found in the HELP section at advance auto or just ask your local parts dealer. does this help?

SOURCE: Broken inside door handle-1996 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab

On almost all GM's there will be a screw in the recess that the handle sits in. After removing this screw, gently wiggle this cup out of it's hole and there should be a metal rod attached to the back of it with a small clip. Unclip this and it's out - installation is the reverse. Just don't lose the clip or let the linkage rod fall down inside or you will have to remove the door panel. It shouldn't take five minutes to replace and most parts stores now carry GM door handle assemblies. Good Luck!

SOURCE: Door lock assembly fell inside door

The same thing happened to my 2006 Aveo. Once you do the above find the lock and the screw that holds it in (they will both be in the bottom of the door). Put the lock back in place, put blue Loctite on the screw and screw it back in place and this problem will not repeat itself.

SOURCE: 06 Silverado tailgate stuck closed

You should be able to get in between the fender and tailgate with a long screwdriver or piece of flat metal and push the catch back into the tailgate. Then pull the handle to release the other side and the gate should open. Hope this helps.

Manual door lock linkage repair 2005 dodge 1500 the rod has broken louse and fell need to know how to recorect

remove the door trim and you will find a rod that is held in place in the door latch by a plastic (what remains of it) clip. There may be replacement clips available from the dealer spares otherwise cruise the wreckers and get some spares . They go brittle and break off. There are steel one that will do the same job

Driver side door handle not working. Can open door from inside but not outside...outside door handle must be broken. Remote works to lock and unlock door. Need to be able to get into my car from the driver...

your linkage rod to the outside door handle has disconnected , if you open up the door panel to access the lock linkage rods you will find the rod that is disconnected . There is a plastic bushing the rod is secured with if it is broken you must replace it , if the rod will not stay in place replace the bushing , hope this helps you out

I have a 1999 nissian altima andthe backdrivers door wont open handle moves up anddownbut wont budge

this sounds like a linkage rod fell off or the handle broke, the door panel will need to be removed from there you will be able to see whats wrong by moving the handle and looking to see if the linkage moves, you will be looking to see if the linkage fell off or if it broke at the handle.

Door handle on my 2000 Buick Park Ave wont open the door, the door will open from the inside, is a part on the handle broken

Either the linkage fell (broke) off, or the handle itself broke. Most handles are only plastic afterall. You can buy new outside handles for fairly cheap ($20 or so). Installing them can be easy or tough depending on the vehicle - soem give you room, some do not. But the job is very straight forward - start by taking off to inside panel. Locate the (should be two) bolts/nuts that hold the handle in place. Take off the lock (held in by retainer clip) and the linkage (metal rod with plastic retainer clip). like I said, pretty straight forward. (make sure the window is all the way up before you start).

The passsenger door opens from the inside but not the outside handle. How do I fix this?

You need to remove the door panel on the inside of the door to gain access to the linkage rods. A linkage rod has fallen off connecting it to the door handle to the door latch. This is an easy fix.

The front door handle lacks tension and the door won't open from the outside. However, the door will open from the inside.

I just bought a 96 transport with that same problem on both front doors they would open from the inside but not the outside. They have a design flaw, basically when you pull the handle it pushes a piece that pivots and in turn pushes a linkage rod downward that actuates the door latch, well that pivot point is the weak spot, the pin that it hinges on is too small and will break, (I found the pivot piece and the linkage rod laying in the bottom of the door)
If you pull the door panel off their are 2 nuts holding the door handle on, take those off and the door handle will come off, the pivot pin is on then inside of the door handle, what I did was to drill a hole and put a small self tapping screw in to replace the pivot pin, and hold the pivot piece and linkage in place then put it all back through the door handle hole in the door, and set the linkage down in it's hole in the door latch assembly. The screw I used was not exactly the same size as the original pin was so the pivot piece had some play in it and did not quite push the down far enough to unlatch the door so I put two small nuts to act as washers on the bottom of the linkage rod so it would push down a little more, now it works like a charm, on the other door the linkage rod had just come out of it's hole in the door latch assembly, all I had to do was pull the inside door handle, which lowered the door latch piece and guided the rod back into its hole as I released the inside door handle and now it works too, took about an hour for both doors, a fairly easy fix, hope this helps.

Door won't open from the inside

Most likely a $2 plastic clip broke or fell off the actuating rod. No site that I know of, but the library should have a service manual for your vehicle. In any case, you will have to remove the inner door panel and/or the exterior handle. Check for screws on the outside handle. If ya get lucky, you can remove the handle from the outside and fix it there. If not, remove the door panel and replace the clip and rod from the inside.
