I also have a 1996 Avalon that just had the valve cover gaskets replaced. The vehicle has 159,000 miles on it. Never seen this warning light before.
The check engine light keeps reappearing.
Codes have been Oxygen sensor and now coolant temp low.
Codes have been cleared, connections apparently cleaned but light comes back on after about 10-20 minutes of driving.

Any help would be great. I am just not sure of the skills of the technician now.

    Thank you
    John

Take the car to AutoZone and have them scan the computer for codes. They'll do it free of charge (a dealer will get you for an hour's labor). Post the codes you get on here as a reply (you will have codes, they're what trigger the check light). If you post the codes here I can help you define them and narrow down the problem.

My toyota 4runner 2003 model, shows engine check light and vsc track light on . But mostly , my truck vibrates big time each time the brake is applied. Please what do I do? I need help. Thanks,...

This sounds like two problems, the virbrating brakes is due to plusating brakes and this is caused by out of round brake rotors, you will need to have the rotors machined down ture again and this will take care of the vibration when braking. the engine and vsc lights are on because the trucks computer picked up a problem. when everthe check engine light comes on the computer shuts down the vsc because if the engine is not running good then the vsc can not operate correctly and so the computer turns of that system and turns on the light and the engine light is turned on due to a problem. there are so many reasone the engine light could be on for, you will need to have the computer scanned for codes. when the computer detects a problem it stores a code that will tell you which part or sensor is failing or failed. this could be as simple as a loose gas cap or may be a sensor but without scanning its hard to know whats wrong. there are many autopart stores like autozone for example that will scan the codes and give you a print out of the codes. for example there may be a code like po301 cylinder 1 misfire detected, this would mean cylinder 1 is mis firing and then with a little checking you can find out why this is. if you could get the codes and let me know them i would be able to help you further, good luck and have a good day.

When I turn the car on the fans come on and stay on what could be the problem? Oh ya the temp gauge dosen't go pass 100.

either the radiator fan relay (electromagnetic switch) is shorted closed, applying power to fans constantly, or the engine coolant temp (ect) sensor is not or is unable to send proper signal to the computer cause the fans to default on ( this would also set the check engine light). I would check for codes first. Then check the relay to see if it is actuating properly when power is applied and removed. Next check the ECT for proper resistance. If the you get an over limit (OL) reading on your multimeter then the sensor is bad. Next I would check the wiring from the ECT sensor to the Powertrain Control Module for possible short to power or ground. If everthing checks out to this point it may be the PCM, though unlikely.

unfortunately, no easy way, unless you buy an inexpensive code reader, you can also clear codes with them.

On dodge durango and chrystler check engine light came on...after fueling..how do you get light off???

it sounds like you left the gas cap off after filling the tank. the computer sensed a "large" evaporative leak in the fuel evap system and turned the check engine light on. just by putting the cap back on wont turn the light off right away, but the computer WILL reset (turn the light off) after the next time the computer runs the "evaporator" function test. it might take upto 3 days, but it will reset. If it doesn't reset after 3-5 days you may have a different propblem. Some auto part stores will scan your computer for codes and try to sell you parts. At least this will tell what code you have and how important it is to fix it.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like the ground wire for the battery is not making clean contact. Trace that wire and clean both ends and the area it connects to the engine block. Good luck!

My speedometer quit working

Find out why the check engine light is on, and this will most likely lead to your speedo working again. Sounds like a bad speed sensor somewhere.
