That usually means the transmission is in "LIMP" mode... Just to get you home or to a Service Center of your choice (one that does transmissions).... When it O/D blinks the car will drive sluggish... it stays in second gear and does not shift.... just so you can LIMP somewhere...... a good price to rebuild this transmission is about 1500 dollars.... 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis - wipers will not work. Have check multifunctional switch and motor. Both ok.


if motor and switch are ok and the motor is running, then it's the ball joints on the arms that have become disconnected underneath the windshield in the firewall vicinity. Also, the wiper arms could be stripped out.
