95 and earlier engines are timed using a timing light after unplugging the relay on the firewall. 96 and later engines are timed automatically by the computer.

Unplug the relay it should have a black and a tan set of wires, it could be on the fire wall or by te distributor, mark your timing marks on the vibration damperand the timing cover your correct timing setting should be on a sticker under the hood. hook up your timing lite to # 1 cylinder and adjust away. if you need more info let me know.

How to timing a 89 chevy 350

With a warm engine and timing light ready (engine running) disconnect the single connector (black and brown wire) located on the passenger side firewall. It sticks out of the main wiring harness. Set the timing by rotating the distributor. Clockwise to ****** the timing and counter clockwise to advance the timing. Lock the distributor in place @ 4 deg. before top dead center. Shut the truck off and reconnect the black and brown wire.

Timing cover is broken leaking oil how do I replace the timing cover for my 1997 gmc k1500 pick up truck 5.7 v8 4 wheel drive I got it off but how do I put it back on do I have to take oil pan down...

you need to remove the fan and shroud next is to remove alt/ac pump/ power steering pump and any thing ales bolted to and around the water pump remove the water pump remove all the bolts around the timing case plus there are 2to4 bolts holding it to the oil pan make shure to scrape all the old gadgets off and clean every thing you took off you will need a timing cover gasket set and a tube of permatex black make sure you use on both sides of the gasket when you reinstall every thing i hope this helps you good luck

How to set timing on a 1997 v6 4.3l gmc vortec engine need to know specs. I am installing a new motor in the truck.

On the drives side long the fire wall on the harness, will be one wire from all the other ones, it could be brown or tan, disconnect the that wire, start engine and set timing, turn engine off reconnect wire and check timing again, should be advance now, also some times that will cause an engine light to come on, just disconnect battery for 15 sec. and computer is reset.

How to set timing on a 97 chevy pickup truck v6 4.3

there is no routine timing adjustment for the 4.3L engine, timing is controlled by the computer. If you are talking about timing after replacing the distributor, there is just the basic rotor alignment to No.1 cylinder with the engine at TDC.
