1995 for Aspire will not start

My 1995 ford Aspire just died and will not start. I checked for spark and it does have spark. i thought the fuel pump might be out so I removed the air inlet tube and tried spraying starter fluid in it, but it still will not start, or even attempt to start. looking for help.

The battery is strong and cranks great.

If your getting spark and getting fuel then one of the timming sensors are not working correctly ( the cam sensor or crank position sensor
does a engine light blink also?

also make sure the injectors are working , you must have compression , because you don't all the sudden lose compression in your cylinders or you would have seen smoke comming out before it quit

make sure all cylinders have spark

all the injectors are recieving 12v pulse

and fuel is getting into the cylinders

If you say you have spark at the plugs and spraying engine start into intake system doesnt make car fire up you may need to pull plugs out to see if you have compression. How good was the spark a nice fat easily visible or yellow and weak.By spraying engine start you have eliminated fuel as your problem,it then becomes an ignition or engine fault.More than likely a coil or ignition module fault

3 reuirements are compression, fuel, ignition. An engine will fire up if these 3 requirements are met regardless of any of the sensors being faulty.By spraying into intake tube you have bypassed all the electrical sensors. You have directly fed fuel into engine so the two requirements left are compression and ignition.Put finger over spark plug hole (plug removed)and get some one to crank engine should be able to easily push your finger off and you will hear it also. That only leaves spark. If you have met the first 2 requirements that only leaves spark.Could be lack of 12v to coil, faulty ignition relay, faulty ignition module, centre button in distributor cap worn down, faulty coil or the crank angle sensor(if fitted)

Also check whether the distributor is proper or not.

    also check the battery

either your batterry is dead or if not your starter needs to be repaired or changed.

  • ready2helpu Oct 25, 2008

    if fuel pump is ok.

then check filter, relay switch, fuses, etc. or spark plugs, wires and distributor cap

  • ready2helpu Oct 25, 2008

your fuel looks proper but if the fuel pump is not creating enough pressue then this problem could occur.so check whether the fuel pump is firm enough or got loosened up.

Along with the ignition switch, there's a neutral safety switch that could be bad, VATS key chip relay if you have this, and possibly fusible links near the battery. Other than that, it COULD be the starter relay. The wire from the ignition should be either purple or red at the solenoid. If there is a small black wire at the solenoid, it should come right from the battery. The VATS can definitely open this, better if you don't have the chip key when this happens. Find the procedure to wire around it, at least temporarily until you verify it is not the problem. Good luck.

make sure all the connections on the starter, battery and cable ends are tight and clean! this is important!!
This won't be fun to test but it will tell you if the starter is good or not. Crawl under the car. (Make sure you use the proper jacks and jack stands!) find the end of the starter (not the end that is attached to the bell housing) and find the solenoid switch. it should have 3 bolts on it. Two large ones and a small one. The top large wire should be the positive battery cable, the bottom large wire should go into the starter and the small wire should be from the ignition switch. Take a wire and hold it to the top large wire on the solenoid. (be careful of the other end of that wire when you have it connected to the top large wire of the solenoid! don't ground this wire. it will turn out badly. ) take the other end of the wire and touch it to the small bolt on the solenoid end. If the starter is working, the solenoid should engage and the starter will turn. If this happens it is most likely the ignition switch. If the starter doesn't turn, the starter could be bad.

also check out for the fuel pump switch

the fuel pump inertia switch is located in the rear hatch on the drivers side behind a small plastic cover in the side panel.

it the switch is not working you can get this problem.

    thanks.

If you hit the tank and it ran? The fuel pump is bad. By striking the tank you jarred the pump, causing what mechanics call "The last ride" Peice of sound advise, Replace with ac delco pump. The zone pumps go out usaly within months if not days

In idle the car seems tro run fine, when gas is

could be a vaccum hose leak or the coil is dying not producing enough power for the spark plugs

Died and it wont start

listen for fuel pump running at fuel tank when key is turned to "ON". runs for 5 seconds. If yes, then check for spark at plugs. If no then fuel pump is not running. Check fuse per owner manual or replace pump in tank.

This to me sounds like it could be the fuel pump but first I would check the simpler solution and make sure your alternator is good because if your started turns over fine but the car wont start the next part to check would be for me the alternator.
