Sporatic problem with Stereo and Stereo Display

Three days ago I noticed the display had gone blank on my stereo (AM/FM 6 disc changer - factory installed unit) and the controls were all inoperative but the radio continued to play. After driving like this for about 15 minutes and shutting the vehicle down for another 10, everything went back to normal until this evening. I started the vehicle and again the display was blank, controls inoperative and this time the radio was off (it had been on when I previously shut down the vehicle this morning). Again I got home, parked for 20 minutes, got back in and everything works again. Any ideas?????

Thanks

I had the same problem on my stereo - same unit - 6 disc am/fm - 2004. The radio was still playin g- but none of the buttons would work on the radio. The steering wheel controls worked to change stations and volume. It has only done it this once - but sounds like there might be a common problem.

We have the same problem. My wife normally drives the car and reported this to me over a week ago. I used the car tonight drove about three miles with no radio problem. Let it set for 1.5 hours. Started the car and the ardio was on but the display was out and there was no way to control the radio. Went about three blocks, stoped to wash the car. Turned off the car, opened the door to shut off the radio and restarted it. The radio worked normally. It is a factory AM/FM with 6 disc changer capable of reading MP3 disks.

Sometimes our radio lights are on and working and sometimes they are not, we also have different instrument lights on the cluster come and go. These problems have always been there since we bought the vehicle new. The worst piece of junk we have ever owned for sure.

We bought our car used but I will say that I noticed this problem early this year and it does it a couple of times per week. I might get out of the car with the radio on a good song and then get back in later to a crummy song playing too loud and I can't turn it down. haha We call it the Ghost car. WEIRD!!!! I love my Durango but wish I could have it function properly.

I recently bought a 2004 Durango LTD that exhibits the same weirdness, as the radio very often will not have power when I start the vehicle. Very random and annoying!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

I have had this problem intermittently since I purchased the vehicle in 2004... the dealer could not fix but showed me that there is a relay that you can pull and re-install. It's under the hood and must be done with the ignition and lights off. Pull the relay, wait 10 secs and re-install and pblm goes away. If you are standing in front of the vehicle there is a relay box on your right/vehicle left. The relay is located in the lower left-had corner of this box. Not a permanent fix, and in my experience the problem goes away when the vehicle is parked for an hour or so but if you have a long drive and want to use the radio, this 60-second fix is worth knowing...

Why won't stereo load any disc?

I also have a 2009 Journey with the 6 disc changer. There is a 'LOAD' button to the right of the disc opening. Press 'LOAD' and wait for it to display "insert disc". The 'EJECT' button is on the left side (above the power knob) and the 'LOAD' button is on the right (above the volume knob).
Hope this is helpful.

check your fuses first. You may have blown one.

ICP Self-Diagnostic Mode
NOTE: To enter the ICP Self-Diagnostic Mode, the ICP must be ON and in radio tuner mode (AM/FM).
  1. Enter the diagnostic mode by pressing and holding preset buttons 3 and 6 simultaneously. This will suspend all radio functions, and display SP.
  1. Preset Button 1 = Audio internal/external SELF TEST. The display will flash SELF while gathering the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), then stop flashing when complete. Press the TUNE UP button to display the DTCs if any exist. Record codes and refer to the following table:

Sounds like the changer has gone bad. Same thing happened on my Altima twice. Dealer replaced it under warranty. Guessing yours is no longer under warranty. Unfortunately this is more of a replacement than a repair item. Your choice if you go factory or aftermarket. I'd see if you can go with the 2007 stereo since it supports MP3 discs and teh 2005 did not.

When i try cd it keeps writing error.and reject every cd plates i insert.it was playing normal 2days ago.pls what do i do when error notice appear.the car is honda 2003 model coupe.thanx

Unfortunately 90% of the time when you get error codes from the CD player/changer it means that there is a mechanical failure in the CD player/changer unit itself and it usually requires CD player/changer rebuild or replacement...
First make sure you have entered the correct anti-theft code. If battery power has been disconnected recently than the stereo display will read CODE if the incorrect anti-theft code is entered the display will read ERR1 thru ERR3. If this is the case you'll have to get the correct anti-theft code. Note; If you enter the incorrect code three times the stereo locks up. Disconnect the battery for more than 30 seconds and then retry.
FYI;Never use adhesive labels or protective disc covers on recordable CD's. Recordable CD's are actually thicker than pre-recorded CD's. Automotive players and changers use rollers to draw the disc into the unit. The added thickness of an adhesive label or protective disc cover may cause the disc to jam. Also CD players and changers are exposed to high temperatures inside the vehicle. High temp will cause the labels adhesive to soften which may cause the labels edges to curl or cause it to bubble. Either one may cause the disc to jam. If the player can not be disassembled and have the discs removed successfully than it will have to be replaced. -hope this helps.

Display wont siow on radio

if the display is blank you will need to send it to a repair facility. your ford dealer should be able to give you an estimate over the phone, or tell you locally where to take it.
the steering wheel controls will not work with an aftermarket radio. besides if you have a 6-disc player, it is probably a fairly nice audio unit.
i would at least see how much to fix it.
