The serpentine belt is tensioned by an automatic spring loaded pulley, it is a pulley with an arm that moves when the engine is running. Make sure the belt is run over the pulleys correctly according to the routing diagram under the hood, if it seems loose and the automatic tensioner is not defective, also verify you have the correct belt number.
