SOURCE: belt tensioner

It is a very involved process of removing and replacing. You will have to remove all of the belts, the front timing belt covers, (upper and lower). You will also have to remove the front bracket that is mounted to the front of the block, which serves as the mount for the power steering pump, the alternator and the A/C compressor. You will also have to remove the crankshaft pulley. You cannot remove the plastic lower timing belt cover unless you remove all of these things first. The tensioner is located underneath the lower cover along side the timing belt on the passenger side. It has two bolts that hold it in place. You will have to remove these two bolts.

The crankshaft pulling bolt is a right handed thread and loosens by turning counter clockwise. The pulley will slip off but is a very tight fit. Do not try to turn it while removing it as there is a small pin that keeps it aligned to one position. Use a small ball pine hammer to tap it loose.

It is also a good idea to remove the electric cooling fan shroud that is mounted to the inside side of the radiator and the radiator hoses to give yourself more room to work. It has only two bolts at the top holding it in place. And then slips into two retaining clips at the bottom. Lifting it will pull it out of these retaining clips.

When you remove the small bypass hose located at the top of the radiator , to the passenger side, be careful not to break off the small nipple protruding out of the radiator tank. It is plastic and will break easily if you try to pull the rubber bypass hose from it. This will have to be taken to a radiator shop to have repaired if you accidentally break this off. Be sure to carefully loosen the hose from this nipple before trying to pull it off.

And one more thing, if you go to that much trouble to replace the tensioner, it is a good idea to go ahead and replace the timing belt as well. It is a maintenance item and you will have to go through the same process to replace it as well. Do it once and do it right.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: serpentine belt install 2001 isuzu rodeo 2wd 4cylinder auto

I believe that you need a 14MM or 15 MM wrench a long one would be the best since the spring is hard to move. There should be a nut on the tensioner pully #6 on the picture below. This is where you need to move the tensioner with one hand and pull the belt off with the other. It might be easier with 2 people. Remember the belt routing it will help when installing the new belt. Good luck.

SOURCE: How do you change the serpentine belt chevy malibu 200

Well you don't have to remove the tensioner. If you look at it, you'll see a 3/8 square hole in the arm of the tensioner. Put a ratchet wrench, or breaker bar in the hole, and you can move the tensioner, it is only spring loaded. The diagram for how the belt laces in should be on the radiator core support. Lace it for the majority around, move the tensioner, and once you have the belt in line, release the tension on the tensioner arm.

Change a serpentine belt

your car is LC , a land cruiser and not a COROLLA.
(J120: 2002-2009) so that makes it real hard to answer, huh?
no year stated,

no displacement stated.(engine)
4.0 L petrol V6???????? 1GR-FE????
3.4 L 5VZ V6 (petrol) ????????????
1GR-FE V6 is available
the series 120 had 7 engines offered and 2 V6

not even a clue. (find the real name of the engine and finding
help is 10x better and so is parts.)

accessories? belt, not cam
it's in the FSM and at maybe at alldata.com login and read.
there are only 2 kinds , you set tension and autotensioners.
so we look first, which kind.
the first step is gaining access. some cars are horrid this way
like FWD.

here is generic.
1: make a drawing of YOUR belt routing, first.
if reUSING old belt mark belt with a direction arrow now. @!!!
2: gain access to belt (no comment, no year, or engine stated.)
3: relax tensioner. (either kind)
4: remove belt
5: but new one back (if old see arrow above)
6: reset tensioner. or set to spec tension, (auto , or manual)
7: start engine , make sure belt runs true, if not, fix that. now.

RTM , read the FSM , RTM at alldata.com (USA cars)

THE LC, is one of the cars that has the largest numbers of
engines used of any car on earth.
over 12.

which engine, learn to find what engine is in your car.
or get the wrong parts every time and 100% bad advice.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Toyota_engines

most online sources of information are bad for LC
due to the huge engine selections.'
they mix facts or skip engines.
get a real FSM>? from TOY.

if your engine has a manual tensioner , you will need the spec
tension (pounds), (some are very high set) and the tool to set it.

How do i take of a pulley and tensioner of a 94 Dodge Caravan 3.0 L V6

You'll need a Serpentine Belt Tool and a socket set.

Rotate the Caravan's serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise to relieve the tension on the belt. Slip the belt off the tensioner with your free hand before rotating the tensioner back to its home position. Remove the tool.
Extract the two mounting bolts that hold the serpentine belt tensioner assembly to the Caravan's front engine cover using your socket set. Depending on your physical size and dexterity, you may find this easier to accomplish through the top of the engine well or through the passenger-side wheel well.
Pull the old serpentine belt tensioner assembly out of the Caravan's engine bay by hand. Place the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly on the Caravan's front engine cover and bolt it in using your socket set.
Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise with the serpentine belt tool and then place the belt on the pulley by hand. Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly back into place. Remove the tool and close the hood.

I would like to get a belt diagram for a 1988 pontiac firebird trans am

ADJUSTING V-Belts Fig. 1: A gauge is recommended, but the belt deflection may be checked using light thumb pressure 85341063.gif
Fig. 2: Loosening alternator pivot/adjustment bolt in order to tighten the belt 85341094.jpg Fig. 3: Apply tension to the belt being careful not to damage the case. While holding accessory in this position, tighten the pivot bolt. 85341095.jpg Fig. 4: Using a 1?2 in. ratchet, apply tension to the air conditioning belt while tightening the pivot bolt 85341096.jpg Belts are normally adjusted by loosening the bolts of the accessory being driven and moving that accessory on its pivot points until the proper tension is applied to the belt. The accessory is held in this position while the bolts are tightened. To determine proper belt tension, you can purchase a belt tension gauge or simply use the deflection method. To determine deflection, press inward on the belt at the mid-point of its longest straight run. The belt should deflect (move inward) 3?8 - 1?2 in. (10-13mm). A general rule for alternator belt tension is that the pulley should not be capable of being turned with hand pressure. Serpentine Belt On most newer vehicles, a single belt is used to drive all of the engine accessories formerly driven by multiple V-belts. The single belt is referred to as a serpentine belt. All the belt driven accessories are rigidly mounted with belt tension maintained by a spring loaded tensioner. Because of the belt tensioner, no adjustment is necessary. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION V-Belt Fig. 1: Loosen the component mounting and adjusting bolts slightly 85341064.gif
Fig. 2: Remove the belt by pushing the component toward the engine 85341065.gif
Fig. 3: Remove the drive belt 85341066.gif
Fig. 4: To tighten the belt, pull the component away from the engine and tighten the mounting bolts to specifications 85341067.gif
To remove a V-style drive belt, simply loosen the accessory being driven and move it on its pivot point to free the belt. Then, remove the belt. It is important to note that on engines with many driven accessories, several or all of the belts may have to be removed to get at the one to be replaced. Serpentine Belt Fig. 5: Serpentine belt tensioner - V6 engine 85341068.gif
Fig. 6: Serpentine belt tensioner - V8 engine 85341069.gif
A belt tensioner is used on these models, to maintain proper belt tension. To relieve belt tension, rotate the belt tensioner (using a 15mm socket) to relieve pressure on the belt. With tension relieved, the belt may then be removed from the engine. It is important to note the belt location at each pulley, to assure correct installation, and proper operation of the engine cooling system. A diagram may be helpful in denoting belt positioning. NOTE: Take care not to bend the tensioner when applying torque. Damage to the tensioner will occur. Maximum torque to load belt should not exceed 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm). prev.gif next.gif

Tension pulley for serpentine belt making noise

The Tensioner Pulley Bearings are failing and either the Tensioner Pulley or the Tensioner Assembly (Pulley, Arm and Base) must be removed and replaced.

Click on the following free direct Link. It has several of the Serpentine Belt Diagrams and Tensioners that are possible with your 4.3L V6 engine.
http://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_information/year/1998/make/gmc/model/jimmy/1998_gmc_jimmy_drive_belt_routing_diagram.htm
1. Remove the Serpentine Belt.
"HOW TO":
Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with a Tensioner:
A. Find the Tensioner(s). (See Diagrams on Link)
B. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
C. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
D. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.

Removing the Tensioner Pulley: See the Diagrams in the Link.
After the Belt has been removed, with the Tensioner resting:
DEPENDING ON WHAT TYPE TENSIONER:
IF the Tensioner Pulley itself HAS a Bolt Head showing, SOME of these bolts can be removed and the Tensioner Pulley replaced.
IF the Tensioner Pulley itself DOES NOT HAVE a Bolt Head showing, then go to the Tensioner Base located at the end of the Tensioner Arm. This should have a Bolt Head Showing. Remove this Bolt and the whole Tensioner Assembly will com off.

When replacing the Tensioner Assembly - MAKE SURE you place the protruding "nipple" on the underside base of the Tesnioner into the appropriate cavity on the engine face.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with Tensioners:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them

Let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions. Feel Free to contact me at FixYa.Com!

Replace belt tensioner on 1998 camaro v6

You'll need a socket and breaker bar to do this job easily. The socket will be of the size 9/16 to 3/4 in that range. Place the socket on the retaing bolt for the tensioner pulley and pull it towards the side that it moves easily, it will only move one way. While holding the tensioner take the serpentine belt off of the uppermost pulley with the other hand. release the tensioner and hang the belt with a piece of coathanger as not to let it slip off the remainig pulleys. Then remover the teensioner pulley retainig bolt and reverse order to replace the pulley and belt.
