It all depends on the problem, which can be caused by a number of issues. Had an older Delta 88 and loved it, also an Olds Customer Cruiser with a big 455.
If it's backfiring as it dies, then it sounds like fuel/air might be fine, and most likely electrical. If so, this could be faulty alternator, regulator, or even damaged or loose cables. Sometimes it's even as simple as checking out the plugs to see if they're fouled.
Otherwise it could be the fuel/air supply, which could be restricted by clogged filters (air/fuel), or even a damaged fuel pump.
There are so many variables, these are just the ones that jump out, based on the limited info you've posted.
