Hi,it could be the fan electronic module located at the bottom of the fan housing.it makes the relay powered on,and cuts in abt 10-20mins.Also chk the Engine coolant temp sensor-with scan tool -see for coherence,or disconect it if car vibrates, like misfire then sensor is fine.

SOURCE: location heat sensor for radiator electric fan

My 1990 senson/switch is actually in the lower rad. hose just behind the rad. It's hard to see from up top. They have a metal pipe in in the hose as if the hose was cut and the metal pipe with a bung is installed.
Weird, but that's where it is....

Is your AC on (AC compressor activated)? Try switching that off and see if it still runs.

SOUND LIKE FAULTY CLUTCH FAN OR THE AUXILIARY ELECTRIC COOLANT FAN NOT RUNNING. CHECK AUXILIARY FAN FUSE AND RELAY. IF LOOK GOOD HOT WIRE TO SEE IF FAN TURNS ON IF NOT FAN FAULTY. IF FAN RUNS YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMO SWITCH. WHICH LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF RADIATOR ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OR ON THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.IF FANS OKAY COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT.REPLACE THERMOSTAT.HAVE RADIATOR AND ENGINE FLUSHED.CHECK IN FRONT OF GRILLE MAKE SURE NO DEBRIS BLOCKING OFF AIR FLOW THROUGH RADIATOR CORES AND AC CONDENSOR CORES.

    Radiator Fans not working

test both fand by hooking them up to a car battery first (watch your fingers) but its more likley to be the thermal switch not switching the fans on its an easy part to swop over it just scews in to the engine block with a whire plug fitted to it that is a push fit, you cant get it wrong,

Does the radiator fan keep running even after switching off the engine

The temperature actuated switch is stuck in the ON position if the cooling fan(s) continue to operate after the engine has cooled down. Locate the defective sensor switch and replace it to eliminate the problem. This could be continuous or intermittent and either way if the switch is faulty it should be replaced.

Fan cooling system of an engine v.w

A thermal switch controls the radiator fan and if the temperature of your radiator is above a preset temperature value, the thermal switch will close and the fan will turn on and will stay on even after you turn the motor off, until your radiator temperature cools down. I wouldn't worry about.
