Have a 2002 yamahaout board the starter bendix spends but don't get to flywheel.haddtarter checked sad it wasstrong. It's a 115hp

some outboards use a spiral gear on starter bendix to engauge the flywheel , this needs to move freely on starter shaft (moves up to engage flywheel) now if say rust happens on this shaft (and it does lots!!) then this gear can not move up to engauge wheel and shaft just spins !! me id try a few squirts of oil right down in there !!

93 F350 7.3 diesel new batterys, cables, selinoid, switch on steering colum starter spins but will not engauge

Bendix is not engaging off the starter . To test your starter ...while someone turns the ignition to start..have someone tap on the starter very lightly with a small hamer. If the benkix is stiking it will release and give you an idea that you need a new starter

My 1999 mitsubishi galant the starter just spins what can i do to fix it so it will engauge

Sometimes the splines stick in the starter motor, I have fixed this problem with a sharp tap with a hammer. but long term you will need to remove it, or have it removed to fix or replace.

I have no responce from the battery? I turn the key and there is nothing. The lights and binger work but nothing else in side

check battery voltage or have battery load tested at parts store voltage should be 13 volts or better if battery is low also test alternater for output most parts stors will do this for free. if battery is up to voltage make sure car is in park and try starting if no start try starting in neutral. if starter does not spin clean all battery terminals. if starter does not engauge remove starter and have tested at local parts store.

98 gmc 2500 intermittent starting 7.4l engine. started one day went to store now wont start, went under it seems the starter kinda clunks once and does nothing, its like the starter drive engauges but does...

There are only two problems with electrical circuits. Too much amperage or too little amperage. We have to determine what you have.
An excellent test is to put your test meter red lead on the positive battery post and the black lead on the negative battery post. Crank the engine and record the voltage. Then place the red meter lead on the starter's battery terminal and the black lead on the negative battery post. Again crank the engine and record the voltage. The two voltages should be with in one half volt of each other. If the voltage difference is greater that one half volt, there is a resistance in the circuit, somewhere. I would expect the voltage to drop a volt or two, max
If the voltage dosent drop, there is high resistance resulting in low amperage. If the voltage drops too low then there is low resistance resulting in high amperage.
High resistance=dirty terminals
Low resistance = shorted wire, slow turning cranking motor maybe caused by bad starter, bad battery or hard to turn engine. ( engine bad, alternator or power steering pump bad, a/c pump bad, etc)
Can use head light for test. Turn on lights and note the brightness. Crank engine. If while cranking, the lights stay bright= high resistance.
If lights go dim = low resistance.

the ground cable that goes from the battery to the top bolt in your starter either needs a new end or you need a new cable.

A swishing sound when starting (some times) then starts.

So it doesnt start on first attempt? How often does this happen. Swishing is usually associated with an air pocket in the cooling system, but shouldnt prevent it from starting in any conceivable way. Possibly the starter isnt engauging the flywheel?

Nothing engauges when you turn the key.

first check all fuses if good go to your starter solenoid take off the ignition wire usually i terminal with someone helping have them turn key to start holding while you take your test light to see if the wire lights the light if it lights put back on the solenoid now test the pos cable on the starter should have juice if not it is fed of the starter solenoid trace all wires back search for burnt inline fusible link there white or black oval shaped test both sides of wire if one side has juice the other doesnt the link is junk they usally burn thru were it looks like a welding arc check all also pull on both sides of wire to see if they come out of link goodluck
