SOURCE: 92 Toyota pickup

I had a similar problem; the engine would start stumbling around 30-35 mph. If the distributor cap, plugs, and wires does not solve it, try the Spark Pickup Coil. If you look under the hood and atop the driver's side wheel well (for the 22RE engine), it's the cylinder shaped object that is bolted to the wheel well. Replacing this fixed it for me. Bought one from a salvage yard; cost was $60.

92 toyota pu surges in high gear

High gear strains the engine more than others, so any tune up item could cause this. Leaking vacuum line, bad air flow sensor, clogged converter or muffler, weak fuel pump or dirty fuel filter all can cause this. I have also seen rust in fuel tank go right through filters and make metallic deposits on spark plugs which will then miss at high speed first and soon at all speeds. Try pulling plugs and "reading" them first. Then test fuel pressure while running at high RPMS.

They both work off of the same cable, so I would say that you have a problem in the speedometer head itself and will need replacing or sent in for repair.

How to replace speedometer cable on 1992 Toyota pick up?

That particular model does not have a cable, it is an electronic speedometer with a speed sensor mounted in the transmission. Check all the wires coming from it, then the sensor and last check the actual gauge in the dash. Here's a link to check the speed sensor. Check wiring integrity at the speed sensor plug, and be sure that the internal gear which drives the sensor is not worn.

Rough idle

check you throttle position sensor first then fuel pressure regulator, then fuel pump. i have a 92 and had to recently do a massive overhaul. my rough idle was caused by a malfunctioning tps with a small exaust leak causing it to race and an intake manifold gasket. also check your idle speed adjustment settings.
