Possably bad gas? to know if it is fuel related try starting it on propane
unscrew the end of a soldering torch and replace it with a 3 foot hose
stick it in the air filter or any air intake have someone start the car while you turn on the propane dont leave it on or give the car to much just till you see if it starts if it starts its fuel related

I have a 98 ford taurus and we switched batteries and now it wont start.

its something you did check the connections . hoping the battery you put in it is good, check and clean connections. also was the ignition key out of vehicle or in ignition could have blown ignition fuse are the head lights bright ?if so do they fade out when starting if so its connections if not its a fuse.

Ford taurus won't start when car been running for awhile

Could be your alternator not being able to spin enough current to start the car. Battery alone wont be enough to start the car. The alternator kicks in and helps. So check the alternator out. Take the alternator out and take it to autozone and they will check it for you for free.

Either the ground cable is loose or corroded at block connection . If cleaning this does not help, change the cable!

Car wont start

I can only say that for the old cars even sitting for a year is not healthy, because most parts of engine, starting system, charging system will get corroded/deposited. Most probably you will need to change battery, motor oil, fuel, spark plugs, check the starter and alternator. Also check the fuel pump, fuel filter. First shot would be battery, fuel, spark plugs and starter.
Good Luck
