Question about 2003 Dodge Intrepid

Gears aren't shifting...RPM's too high

I can be driving 20mph and my RPM's are at 3 or 4. When I'm waiting at a stop light the RPM's stay above 1. My check engine light turns on about 5 minutes after I've started to drive.

There is a problem with the transmission sensor on these cars that will set a trouble code and cause the problems that you describe. Another issue is the correct fluid, use ATF+4 in your Intrepid or you'll mess up the transmission.

double posted. see other post, see schematic.

that's a transmission code.
- Faulty Brake Switch
- Mis-adjusted Brake Switch
- Brake Switch harness is open or shorted
- Brake Switch circuit poor electrical connection
Can this car actually have brakes stuck on , sure but
the above is only the brake lamp stuck on. that is, the switch. failed
or maladjusted. (do any brake work? latetly)
low engine power.?
Can this light and low power be related?., heck I dont know
i cant drive this car., but i can push it by hand (feel drag) and
spin tire/wheels on jack stands and tell if there is drag in about 15min work.
no drag then the switch is bad. and the engine power
is un related.
if the brake lamps are stuck on, the switch is bad. (or not adjusted right) a simple switch test is easy and fully covered in the FSM.
you can google for simlpe tests or youtube them..

1: lost engine power.
2: bad tranny (slips. or is seizing.,etc)

does the tranny pass the stall test and not slip?

5second max let cool for 5min, repeat if necessary.

LOW POWER> (driving engine power, to tires)
this stall test , shows 2 things,
1: the engine has power. (normal) spec RPM.
2: the transmission does not slip. (RPM way to high , slips)

for people with A/T (complex ) this is 1 test of many in the FSM
the FSM has 100 pages on ON CAR testing.
I do not know, your cars, stall speed spec. , i do not have the FSM.
if doing work on your own, car, i highly recommend getting one.

does the stall test fail in all gears? L and drive, or 2 ? etc?
and revers?

Gear shift stays in park and abs esp and asr lights on

1) try to use the self diagnose.
2) place ignition swtuch in the start position, the lights coming on
3) engine starts, the brake light sould turn off inmediately. the ABS ligth will illuminate for aprox 6 seconds.
4) test drive the vehicle at speed above 20mph for a few minutes. during the test the both test lights should remain off, if any one of the warninign light utron, take note of the condition.
5) stop the vechicle using the braking pressure.both light should remain offf during the stopping procedure.
60 place the gear selector in to PARK, and observe the warning lights, they should both be off.

2002 Dodge durango automatic. at a stop light rpm is above 1000, when i press on the gas pedal between 10-20mph, the rpm raises between 2-3 rpm. what's the deal? is it a transmission sensor?

Sounds like you might have a failing TPS or Throttle Position Sensor.

The part attaches to the throttle body with three torx screws.

Before that, try battery disconnect reset by unhooking the negative battery cable and depressing the brake pedal for a minute or so.

Reconnect and fire it up to see if idle is still high.

My 07 camry sounds like it is not shifting

is this a 4cyl or many miles??sounds like the transmission isn't shifting to lower there any warning lights lit on your dash??

Trouble in shifting

I am having trouble understanding what you are saying but it sounds like you are saying the transmission shift points are too high. (Holds the gears too long, RPM's too high before it shifts) RIght? Check to see if you have vacuum to the modulator at Idle. If yes replace the modualtor.
