My 1996 Towncar continues torun after the key is turned off. I replaced the key cylinder but the problem contains. Any suggestions?

Does the engine run normally or does it buck and snort like a mad horse? The key cylinder operates the ignition switch. It may be the problem. If it bucks and snorts there is a build up of carbon inside the cylinders of the engine.

1995 lincoln towncar the radio changes one its own - bell dings even with the key out of the ignition - the ignition switch does wiggle - the battery is drained dead if the sets more then one day.

The problem is the ignition lock cylinder, and the small clip (switch) which detects the key being inserted. The lock cylinder should be replaced and most like the ignition switch too, but it is located on the right side of the steering column about 10 inches below the lock cylinder. Not an easy repair, but not brain surgery either. I suggest a professional mechanic or at least someone who has done the repair before on another FORD vehicle. Your radio changes stations because of the electrical "noise" caused by the key "clip".

I think I already answered this... but there is an amplifier behind the back seat in the trunk area, and there is a fuse on it. Start by replacing that fuse.

  • Perform procedure in reverse order to install the new master cylinder. After installation is complete, refill the master cylinder with brake fluid and perform brake bleeding procedure.Use only brake fluid stated in manufacturer specifications.

If a small piece of the ingition key cylinder broke off and is now lodged deep in the key cylinder, how do I remove it for replacement? The key does not completely insert, since the piece is lodged in...

you can remove the lock cylinder and try to knock the piece out. You need to turn the key to the on position and then insert a small pin in the hole on the side of the lock cylinder so you can pull out the lock cylinder. A large paper clip would work.
