Hello! When you say does not start; Does the starter motor crank?...If the starter motor cranks the engine the anti-theft is clear...If such is the case, lets eliminate the Inertia Fuel Shut-off Switch...The inertia fuel shutoff switch is located on the LH side lower back panel in the luggage compartment and is manually reset...To reset the inertia fuel shutoff switch; press button on top...Send a comment...Guru...saailer

SOURCE: 1996 ford tauras gl got spark and winds over theft

It is not the relay this vehicle has the FORD PATS key based engine disabling system,
and it's not recognizing the chip in your
key.

I would suggest having the dealer reset the key code or find a bypass kit for the whole system.

SOURCE: vehicle cranks but wont start

Turn ignition to run not start, count to 5,turn off key. Repeat this three times. Try to start vehicle. If its starts you are done. If not you will need to repeat turn ignition on count to 5 then turn off, 3 more times On the fourth time leave key in the run position for 10 minutes. Then turn key off & start vehicle.

You are going to have to take a voltmeter to the fuel pump wires at the connector to see if it is getting voltage. It'll only get voltage for one second after you first turn the key on and will get voltage continuously while trying to crank. So, you'll have to have someone crank the engine over while you check for voltage. If you get voltage and it won't come on, then you need to replace the pump.

Normal cranking pressure is 70psi. It won't start if pressure is below 60psi.

If this truck has the 4.3L vortec motor it will not start with 40-45 PSI fuel Pressure.Thius engine requires approx. 56 PSI fuel pressure or it will not start. The fuel pump more than likely needs to be replaced this is a common problem with the 4.3L vortec engine.Change the fuel pump and your problems will be solved.

Hello csdunne: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. The oxygen sensor will not cause a no start condition. How ever the fuel pump will. You need to test the fuel pressure. Whether you have a 4x4 or 4x2 the pressures are the same. Key on engine off. a 4.3 W engine should have 60-66 psi. A 4.3 X engine will have 55-60 psi. I would also check the fuel filter. A dirty fuel filter will cause low fuel pressure. If the pressure is below the min. by just a few pounds the engine would not start. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Sounds like your fuel pump is going out on you. Check your fuel pressure. You should have 40 psi when the key is in "on" position. You should have no less than 5 psi under that when it's running.
