Here's a really high tech test...Slap the top of the dash with your hand when dash goes out...if everything comes back on, remove the dash gauge panel and clean the contacts in both plugs. sometimes slightly bending them will help make better contact.

the TJ uses P0117 codes, is that it?
P = power train
0 - federal codes (invented by FED EPA)
P0117 in year 2000 is
ECT Sensor Voltage Too Low

that means its shorted out, or the 1 wire to it is grounded out.
0v, would be bad,
P0171 is lean, did you swap numbers?
same with p0174
p1298 (wot lean)

lean can be

O2 sensors stuck at 1v (rare) most stick 0v , wrong. not 1v.

My 97 jeep 2.5 tj does idle around 1000 rpm but sometimes it drops off and on (surges )not alot my guess is clean the injectors and do gas treatment even i always run good gas ,(cap rotor plugs are all new...

I think you're on the right track, have you replaced fuel filter recently? That and check for vac leaks at engine (vac hoses & intake hose - bellows)

Can't find cause of p0171/p0174 error on my TJ

Please read thoroughly the explanation of these fault codes and the possible sources of the code at the links provided. But based on the fault codes I think you have a engine vacuum leak.

Need adjustments for 88 model carter 2 barrel carburator. fits 4.2 jeep

To set carb adjustment, first set timing correctly, then put both a vacuum gauge and tach on the engine. adjust one idle screw to highest vacuum reading and highest tach reading, then do the other one. go back to the first and re-adjust again, then the other. I find that if you have a mechanical screw or a solenoid that holds idle speed on the linkage, turn them back so that engine is idling at the lowest possible rpm without stalling before making adjustments, then when finished, bring idle rpm up to recommended rpm using those. On an older carb, usually the idle screw covers have already been removed. If not, you need to remove them before you begin, usually best done with carb on a bench.

When started idels high about 2000 rpm then drops when hot cold ?

the iac probably has carbon built up around it this controls the idle speed try cleaning it first,if not it could be a bad iac or a vaccum leak that the iac takes some time to compensate for to control idle.

Defective tachometer and speedometer

Do the following:1)key in the ON position:remove the 7.5 gauge fuse.Tach needle should read "0:". 2)put it back,go on the engine and unplug the green plug on the igniter -the big one, with 5 or 6 wires on it.The needle on tach reading should be zero.If not you have a short circuit on the black wire between that plug and the plug on the conbination meter.3) If the reading is zero with the plug disconnected, the black wire for the tach is short-circuited inside the igniter. I have one

2000 Grand Cherokee, 4.7 HD - Tach needle reads full clockwise

I had this issue with my Jeep about a year ago - took it into the shop and all they had to do was reset the Tachometer (some trick to it - posted somewhere on the internet). Has to do with an "overcharge".

I have a 92 jeep wrangler that won't run

Sounds like the crank sensor. One way to check is while cranking watch the tach. If there is no movement then most likely it needs a crank sensor. If the sensor is good you will see a slight bounce in the tach.
