Check the fuel pump relay (white inside and back of fuse area behind the cig ashtray). They get old and quit.

Second, check frayed wires on the crank angle sender - they could be grounding out on the rear of the engine.

Perform a check on the ECT switch (toward rear of head under the intake manifold (hidden over the oil trap). It's a nuckel buster to remove, and ou don't want to break it.

Also check spark plugs for wear and gap. Check coil wire, and plug wires for jumping spark.

Hi I'm a mechanic mexico ... my problem is this I have a Volvo 940 without turbo ... and heated turns on and off will not cut the wings spark plug spark nor gasoline

Don't exactly know what the problem is but my Volvo 245 had the problem that the relay to gasolie pump got very hot so it stopped working. Try resolder the contacts in the relay.

940 SE Turbo won't start. Seems to be linked to damp weather conditions. but is so intermittent it is impossible to be sure. Fuel pump relay replaced.

try changing the distributor cap and if that doesnt work then the coil in case the coil tower insulation is breaking down

Volvo 940 se turbo estate 1995 engine cuts out whilst driving will restart in minutes have renewed fuel filter ignition switch fuel pressure ok will be ok for a while then fault returns

I would replace the fuel pump relay, and the engine speed sensor. I would need more information to rule one or the other out, but at this mileage, neither part is terribly expensive, and both have been known to cause your same exact condition

Fuel pump getting hot

Not a good sign at all make sure that the pump has a good ground but i will exchange the pump from where i got it, the fuel that runs into the pump should be cooling the motor but in your case the pump is heating the fuel not a very good sign please replace the pump.
